If you do have a glass of wine in the evenings, what time do you have it? I'm just being nosy! Please don't reply if you don't :)

It will generally be after dinner when DS who is 12 is in bed and I can sit down and relax so anytime from 8.30
On a weekend if we are at home and I have nowhere to be I've been known to have a couple of shandies mid afternoon or i might have a beer with dinner then a few more later.

mondaytosunday · 26/09/2024 16:25

If I'm having wine it's about 7.30 ish when I sit down to eat. But several of my friends say they like to have a glass while they are cooking (so I guess around 6ish). If I try to do that I get distracted after first sip and forget about it.
And I have one friend who likes a nice cold Chardonnay at lunch and it sort goes on from there!

Mrsttcno1 · 26/09/2024 16:27

I’ve never been one to drink through the week but when we would have a drink on a weekend I’d usually have one when I sat down to eat dinner so about 6pm. Now I have a 5 month old baby I can only dream of a 6pm wine😂 one day!!!

FrenchandSaunders · 26/09/2024 16:41

I like to have one whilst I'm cooking and listening to a podcast, so 6/7ish.

Blueberrymuffin8 · 26/09/2024 16:46

I usually have one at 6pm but feel it's too early as I always want another (albeit small) glass. Going to try to push it to 7, so I'm less likely to drink more if I'm eating dinner. It will be tough as I usually stressed by 6 and really need to unwind!

As I’m making dinner for the family - so 6ish

UpUpUpU · 26/09/2024 16:48

I only drink when I’m within my partner so usually about 5.30 we’ll open a bottle and have a glass making/with dinner then another after dinner about 7.30. Then we switch to tea 🤣

Don't worry, your time will come soon. It'll go by in a flash. My boys are 7 and 8 now but I still remember those restrictive days!

Crikey, when my partner is within me he tends to have other things to occupy himself...

BigDahliaFan · 26/09/2024 16:50

In my head it's better to drink wine with a meal...so 7-ish
...and I'm trying to stick to just the weekend...

WiserOlderElf · 26/09/2024 16:52

If I have a glass it’s at about 8pm when the kids are in bed. If they’re up I’m too busy rushing round sorting them out with something or other to enjoy it, so I wait until I have some peace!

When mine was 5m that was the time I would reach for the 6pm wine!!! My husband did bathtime and I’d lay on the sofa with a book and glass of wine or a cocktail at the weekend!!

I don't think I could make it that long!

If she slept through the night I would!! But the thought of being woken up every 45 mins through the night is enough to put me off, after basically 18 months sober I think even 1 glass would give me a hangover for the night time battle😂

challengingaminime · 26/09/2024 17:00

About 8:00 when I have finally done everything and sit down to relax.

If there's a bottle open, I'll have a glass whilst I'm cooking (so about now!)

Otherwise I'll wait until about 7.30-8pm.

Sodding menopause has curbed my wine intake massively-probably a good thing tbh

Fontainebleau007 · 26/09/2024 17:07

Whenever I sit down usually between 8pm and 9pm

AyrshireTryer · 26/09/2024 17:10

I work part-time.
5pm is wine or gin or rum and crisps.
It's 5 o'clock somewhere is the theme.

wheneverwhereverwhatever · 26/09/2024 17:20

I don't really drink during the week, but if I have the occasional one, it's usually after kids are in bed, or around the time they go, so about 8-8.30pm. Weekends vary, usually won't open anything until dinner is nearly ready, so 6ish. If we have people over, or go out for lunch, might have one earlier, depending on circumstances.

Doggymummar · 26/09/2024 17:21

I don't generally drink. But Waitrose had a deal on yellow tail Shiraz and I just opened the bottle. Having an early dinner as I have to be up at 3 tomorrow so want to be in bed by eight

Alittlebitfluffy · 26/09/2024 17:22

Usually just a Friday or Saturday night thing for me. Usually after dinner - I prefer it as a treat after food rather than with a meal (at home anyway). Wine, rum or gin for me.

Sometimes also on a Sunday 🤫

@Blueberrymuffin8 This is exactly our dilemma ! I like one while I'm cooking but it's too easy to have a top up while we eat and another top up once we've cleaned up and sat down.
The plan is to start a bit later but we'll see !
