I can't find many reviews online for the one I am looking at here

Will take any comments at all on Bissel as a brand for vacuums.

I've had this one for about 2 months. In the last 10 years I had 2 x Dysons and the last one only lasted 3 years so thought I would just buy a cheapy one. I hunted high and low and searched here and there for reviews and the like and came up with the bissell. It's great! cleans/sucks well. No minus points so far apart from the dust collector is small. but then it's very easy to empty.

for £100 it's a bargain! - Thats around about what i paid but saw it was £236 on amazon

ScoobyDoo · 13/04/2008 08:41

I had one before i got the Dyson & thought it was really good until i tried the Dyson ball

It has good suction, easy to empty, easy to do the stairs as the middle comes out, the only thing i found with the one i had was it was very heavy. I did not have the one you linked to, i had [http://uk.bissell.com/Products/Product.asp?catalog_name=BISSELL&category_name=Vacuum&product_id=UK+ Lift%2DOff+Bagless+Upright+Canister this one here]]

Furball · 13/04/2008 08:41

if you look on amazon - there are 2 5star reviews!

SlightlyMadSweet · 13/04/2008 08:42

It is supposed to be heavy though isn't it?

How does the removable thingy work. I can't really find out much about that...

OP posts:
Furball · 13/04/2008 08:42

also - loads of reviews

reevoo

ScoobyDoo · 13/04/2008 08:43

It also has a long lead so you don't have to keep swaping plug sockets.

also don't know what the difference is between 3760k and 3760e

SlightlyMadSweet · 13/04/2008 08:44

On reviewcentere there were 2 reviews. One 10/10 and one 3/10ish. So I was looing for mre to tip it one way or the other.

How does it deal with long hairs? How easy is the roller brush to remove an de-clog?

It is this or probably a dyson for about £150 (older model). This looks better value.

Never had a Dyson, and not sure I want one.

OP posts:
Furball · 13/04/2008 08:47

don't know about long hairs and absolutely no idea how to declog the roller brush - maybe thats why my dysons never went the distance?

SlightlyMadSweet · 13/04/2008 08:49

On my previous thread Dysons were supposed to be good for non clogging.

I could always chop off DTDs waist length hair !!!

Have found my nearest store...it has moved near Toys r Us so we could kill 2 birds with 1 stone as it is DD3s B day in a couple of weeks...

OP posts:
ScoobyDoo · 13/04/2008 08:49

I thought the Bissel was good but it is no where near as good as the Dyson ball i have, i am not sure about long hairs or how to declog it.

Furball · 13/04/2008 08:52

but the dyson ball is nearly 3 times the price of the bissell

cluckyagain · 13/04/2008 08:54

I have one - would have rated it as a 10/10 for the first few months but the suction on the middle body is rotten unless seriously empty collector and really clean filter - it is a fag to empty them so often and I wouldn't buy one again. It's not that heavy though and the long lead is fab. Basically happy with the basic hoover function but the tools are a pain due to the constant suction reduction.(although perhaps mine just needs something doing to it?!!)

SlightlyMadSweet · 13/04/2008 09:00

Thats what I worry about Clucky.

People review them when they have had them 2 weeks. They are amazed at how much dust it collects that there "old" one missed 10 mins ago. They get a honeymoon review.

Vacuums really need to be revewed after 6-12m.

ScoobyDoo · 13/04/2008 09:11

I know furball probably shows you get what you pay for then (not that i paid)

ScoobyDoo · 13/04/2008 09:14

I have only had mine about 4 months & i must admit the suction is not working as good now, have tried to work out why but cleaning, emptying but still the same.

SlightlyMadSweet · 13/04/2008 10:05

...hmmm just looked on Which and it gets a poor rating....

OP posts:
SlightlyMadSweet · 13/04/2008 14:54

I got a Dyson.

Went for "the ball one".

When I got home and unpacked it I have realised it is the mini ball one - which is not what we looked at in the shop....and I think it is possibly too small, and lacks tools (it is a good job we got a free tool kit with it)..but we shall see.

Disappointed with teh "out of the box experience" TBH, but only because I was expecteding to be wowwed by teh hype I think.

love my Bissell. Ive had it four months now . I got one because I used one at work . I love it and it still works as good as the Day I got it . I empty it everytime I use it . (I like seeing the dirt go in the bin . ) ( sad or what )

CamillaDyson · 14/04/2008 11:17

Hi SlightlyMadSweet.

Promise not to be a Dyson stalker...just check up on things on here after we did the trial.

The mini ball is really aimed at people in flats/smaller homes/second machine, so I really hope that you're not too disappointed. Where did you buy it from out of interest?

SlightlyMadSweet · 14/04/2008 17:42

We bought it from Makro - so (unfortunately) no proper showroom/salesmen.

We looked at what was on display and picked up the box from underneath the display model. I didn't realise there was 2 Ball models (so it id our fault) - we only got this one as it was quite a bit cheaper than the DC14 which gets highly rated on Which - so we thought the Ball would be an advancement IYSWIM. Having said that with a family of 5 in a 3 bed town house we don't exactly have oodles of space to store it so in that respect it is fab . DP vac'd the whole house today and hasn't complained so it must be OK. He did comment on how full i t got so must be doing a good job (compared to our old Vax machine).

I am sure it will be fine. I didn't mean I thihnk it is not good. I think it is one of those things that there is a lot of hype about the name "Dyson". I think you expect it to fly out of the box and start dancing around the room (or is that teh Roomba ) - which it obviously didn't do.
The best comparison I can make is the film "The Blair Witch project". Loads of hype and when I went to see the film I enjoyed it but couldn't see what all the fuss was about.

SlightlyMadSweet · 14/04/2008 18:08

Sorry.

Back again - a couple of sspecifics which disappointed me (bare in mind that I am comparing toone which we looked at in store - teh big ball - and that I fully realise that the differences are down to things that have been designed into the smaller model.....they just deviated from what I was expecting IYSWIM)

Lack of on board tools (although we got a free car tool kit which looks fab. Can't wait to try the bendy bit)
Small canister (this is hte biggest issue TBH) - but I think the website says that it has the same capacity???
The fact that the wand has to be taken out and put back on the other way round. Again this isn't a huge deal. I was just expecting to be able to lift it out and use it straight away like the other dysons. BUT it still looks better than the VAX and Electrolus models we have had previously where you have to bend down and fiddle with a hose connector that diverts suck from teh bottom to the tools.
DP is sceptical about how long the bendy tube on the back will last with all the wand putting in and out. I am less so.

On the plus....love the small size (I don't think a big dyson could live in our airing cupboard which would have meant him being thrown in teh garage)
Lovely and light
The ball really works. MOves round our bed and toilet like a dream (according to DP
Love the fact that the brush stops when you use the tools
Love the fact the brush slides out of the side. Apparently DP had to clean it doay after just 1 vac round...but that is probably a result of having me and 2 DDs with waist length hair.

HTH

OK, what I have just spent teh last 10 minutes trying to say is....

I ordered a ham sandwich, took a bite and it was cheese and tomato - not what I was expecting. Not bad, but different with its own qualities.

Ha ha - I am just giggling at you trying not to say you hate it. It's fine, i won't be offended!!

If it's doing it's job properly, I would guess that the bin will get filled up quite quickly. You do also get a few more tools with the DC25 (official name for the big one!). It has got a much smaller bin than the full sized ones, but as I said before, we've designed this one for people that love uprights, but necessarily have the space for a full sized one.

I've just started using this one at home and having been a cylinder girl before, i;ve found it odd adjusting to the hose bit at the back. But I find it easier to just put the attachment straight on the hose and ignore the wand. Unless I am stretching for something. I am also using the whole machine on the stairs...looking like an absolute loon. Love the brushbar on carpets though!!

I'd like to say swap it for the full sized machine, but don't know the ins and outs of Macro's returns policy? SOunds like you're getting on OK though.

Once we finish our robot (no idea when that'll be), I will make sure you trial it for us...you can then get the jig you were hoping for!
