BNoth Dd's are going on a Brownie camp 2-4th May, and so on the 3rd (Sat) I wanted to find something to do with Ds.

I did consider the Dr Who exhibition in London, but a)it might be too expensive and b) it might scare him even though he adores the programme.

Have checked ticketmaster and there doesn't seem to be any suitable shows on near me, that we could go to.

Where are you?

McDreamy · 06/04/2008 17:45

Where are you and how old is he? How much do you want to spend?

CrackerOfNuts · 06/04/2008 17:46

Ooops sorry, we are in Brum, and he is 5. Not sure how much I want to spend really, depends what we are doing.
Ideally don't want to spend half the day travelling.

Do you ski? You could go to the Snowdome.

West Midlands Safari Park

PuppyDogTails · 06/04/2008 17:49

Unlikely to ski if he is 5 I suppose - they do have an ice rink and sledging there though.

CrackerOfNuts · 06/04/2008 17:50

Sorry, should also have said that I don't drive.

a farm?

slayerette · 06/04/2008 17:52

I'm in Worcester and these are things I've done with ds (5):

Sea Life Centre
Warwick Castle
Hatton Country World
Safari Park
Drayton Manor

Of these, best value for money/most fun for ds was Hatton Country World.

CrackerOfNuts · 06/04/2008 17:52

Now i will sound like I am being really picky, but I am scared to death of farm animals LOL. I have never taken any of my children to a farm.

sea life centre?

PuppyDogTails · 06/04/2008 17:53

Safari Park isn't that far from Kidderminster station, 5 mile taxi ride perhaps.

stealthsquiggle · 06/04/2008 17:53

SeaLife centre or Cadbury World, or is he sick of those?

slayerette · 06/04/2008 17:54

Ok, not Hatton Country World then! I think the Sea Life centre is your only option really!

How do you feel about fish?

WestCountryLass · 06/04/2008 17:56

Because he has two older sisters who are away, what about inviting a couple of his friends round to play and for lunch/tea.

If you don't want to travel too far, CadburyWorld? Or the Thinktank Museum? Or are their any steam trains in your area? I went to Conkers and I don't think that would take that long to get to:

CrackerOfNuts · 06/04/2008 17:56

Never been to Cadbury World. Have done Sealife centre, but i think Ds was a baby then, so that might be good.

I think the Severn Valley railway is up and running again. Train from B'ham to Kidderminster, then steam train to Bridgenorth. Very nice if the weather isn't awful.

CrackerOfNuts · 06/04/2008 18:00

Janeite, I love going there but tbh we have done it to death.

Still umming and ahhing about the Dr Who exhibition as entry price isn't bad. Just depends how much travel would be.

I know i just said I didn't want to travel, but Ds would be absolutly ecstatic to go there.

I just paid £40 for me and £20 for ds to get return train tickets to London if that helps you decide about going there. That was booking online a couple of months in advance.

stealthsquiggle · 06/04/2008 18:07

This thread is driving out lots of Worcs based MNers I never knew lived around here! [ignoramus]

ThinkTank is a good idea. FWIW I gave DS(5)and his friend the choice of SeaLife Centre or Safari Park for an outing next week and they have chosen SeaLife Centre. I later thought of ThinkTank but am not going to complicate matters now!

CrackerOfNuts · 06/04/2008 18:07

Thanks, just looking at trains and coaches now.

The train journeys are coming up as between 2-4 changes, which I am not keen on tbh, but will keep looking.

Really? New Street to Euston is direct, about 2 trains an hour I think. Are the changes at either end?

slayerette · 06/04/2008 18:27

I found one from New St to Paddington with 1 change at Reading.

PuppyDogTails · 06/04/2008 18:28

They must be doing something to the line that weekend then if they are sending you to Paddington.

janeite · 06/04/2008 18:38

I took dd1 to London earlier this week. One train, New Street to Euston was £33 return for both of us with a family railcard. It's also worth looking at Chiltern railways who run a Snow Hill to Marylebone service. It takes a bit longer but is usually cheaper.
