6 and 8
boys
football
£3 per session, pay half termly

Quattrocento · 03/04/2008 18:42

8&10 - One of each

Swimming £6 per lesson per child - though we pay for the course termly. They both did this from the age of 4 and DD has just given up now.

Tennis £20 per private lesson between them, then £5 each for a group matchplay session. They both do this.

Football £2.00 a week for the practice then about £200 a year for the kit and the membership subs. DS does this.

Hockey is around £5 per week I think though I don't arrange this one so I don't know for sure. DD does this.

All these sporty things are a real pain because it's not just the lessons and the club nights. It's the neverending galas/tournaments/matches ... And the kit. DO YOU KNOW HOW MANY KITBAGS I HAVE TO PREPARE EVERY WEEK? We haven't even touched on the in-school activities ...

Oh there's also piano which is arranged through school and is quite pricey but can't remember how much it is. They both do this.

2 girls age 6 and nearly 8,

1 hr disco £3 each plus exam fees,
1hr ballet £3 each plus exam fees,
1hr running club (free),
1hr brownies £1 each,
1hr church group 50p each,
3hrs Stagecoach (dance, singing, drama)on Saturdays(small fortune!).

Ballet, Disco & Brownies all on wednesdays ......I hate Wednesdays!!!

gracemargaret · 03/04/2008 18:50

.....don't even get me started on the cost of uniform/show outfits - reckon we could afford 2 more holidays a year if they gave it all up!!

And then there's those lovely notes along the lines of - "your dds will require a rabbit and horse outfit for tomorrows show - please find enclosed several yards of cloth, some tracing paper and a ball of wool!!!) Grrrr!

lljkk · 03/04/2008 18:55

2 DSs, age 4+8: do nothing regularly scheduled. Most weekends a family swim (£8 for 5 of us).

DD age 6: Dance (£5/hr), swimming (£4.5/half hour). Music in term time at school (£50/term). Wants piano lessons and Brownies and () and () and ()...

CrackerOfNuts · 03/04/2008 18:56

It's interesting reading.

I have 3 dc's, 2 girls aged 10 & 8 and one Ds aged 5.

Dd2 goes to Brownies which is about £2 a week.
Dd1 goes to Guides which is roughly the same as Brownies.
Ds does nothing.

I want to find one more activity each for the dd's and one for Ds to start, but they all seem very pricey.

Plus Ds doesn't actually show any interest in anything.

Oh Dd1 used to do ballet, but gave it up

Both dd's wanted to learn to play a musical instrument at school, but it was £73 a term each.

CrackerOfNuts · 03/04/2008 19:00

Dd2 wants to do ice skating but we live nowhere near and ice rink.

FrannyandZooey · 03/04/2008 19:04

ds is nearly 5

he does nature club which is £1 but subsidised by local museum services until he is 5
sports which is usually £9 but free as I work for them
just booked him in for gymnastics which is £3.90
and he occasionally does music session which can be up to £12 a shot including course materials

FrannyandZooey · 03/04/2008 19:05

just realised I should have mentioned that we home ed which is why he does quite a lot
if he was at school I would only probably do one thing per week with him - probably the sports

Quattrocento · 03/04/2008 19:05

THis is what I think about after-school activities

THEY ARE TORTURE FOR THE PARENTS

And you know I was the one who insisted on the swimming malarkey - keen on water safety and all that - had to endure weekly rows to get them there - absolutely painful

With hockey and football - everything goes really really smoothly - this is because these are the sports that they really really want to do and begged to be allowed to do.

So I would say don't bother until they are begging to do something. A volunteer is worth ten pressed men. Give yourself a break.

Iota · 03/04/2008 19:07

I agree with Quattro - I spent too long dragging reluctant children to swimming lessons and gym.

ds1 didn't do anything from age 6 - 8 and only started football again in Sept

CrackerOfNuts · 03/04/2008 19:10

The problem is, both dd's do want to do something else, but are not sure what.

Not being able to drive always presents us with a huge problem as whatever they want to do has to be in thie (expensive area) so choices are very limited.

Both dd's have asked several hundred times to do gymnastics but there is nowhere round here doing that.

Dd1 wants to do cheerleading, and I did find a place but she'd have to be there at 9, which would mean leaving the house at about 8 at the latest, and i don't think the other dc would be impressed with that.

OP posts:
Iota · 03/04/2008 19:12

nut, you need to live in MK - we have ice rink, gym and cheerleaders

CrackerOfNuts · 03/04/2008 19:14

LOL, ok I shall pack up dd1&2 and send them to you then, ok ?

OP posts:
gracemargaret · 03/04/2008 19:14

luckily all our stuff goes on in the village (except Stagecoach) so walking distance - agree the kids really have to want to do it to make it woth the hassle/expense though.

CrackerOfNuts · 03/04/2008 19:17

Both dd's wanted to go to a drama school, think it was Razamatz or something, but I nearly died when I saw how much it was.

Buda · 03/04/2008 19:22

DS is 6.5 and does football - no idea how much - DH takes him and pays and it is Hungarian anyway!

He also does guitar at school but we pay - can't work out cost!

He also does tennis once a week with 3 others - we share costs and a friend organises it all and I just pay up so haven't worked it out.

I know nothing!

Iota · 03/04/2008 19:24

hell no ! don't send them my way, the two I have seems like too many sometimes

LyraSilvertongue · 03/04/2008 19:26

DS1 is 5.5 and he does karate. It's £4 a week.
DS2 is 3 (nearly 4) and he does gymnastics. It's £5 a week.

ScienceTeacher · 03/04/2008 19:27

My DDs do Rainbows/Brownies/Guides. Cost is around £20 per term each. They all love their groups.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 03/04/2008 19:41

DD is 7 and does drama - £90 a term.

About to start Brownies.

OverMyDeadBody · 03/04/2008 19:50

DS is 5 and does football £2 per session
climbing £2.30 entrance fee and then I do all the teaching so not really a class as such

chess club 50p per session
