Does anyone know? I have always wondered and Google hasn't helped!

😀 my neighbour calls her dd Millie Moo so I'm not sure it's and Amanda thing, more just a pet name thing.

Totallyterrific · 27/08/2023 11:53

Ive never heard of anyone called Amanda being called that.

saveforthat · 27/08/2023 11:53

I have never in my life known of anyone called Amanda Moo

Strugglingtodomybest · 27/08/2023 11:55

I know quite a few Amanda's (child of the 70s here) and have never heard of Amanda Moo before, more like Amanda Panda.

I think the Moo thing is just a general nickname, not an Amanda specific one. My friend’s DD is Matilda and they call her Millie Moo.

Hellsbellsandspidersankles · 27/08/2023 11:56

I don’t think that’s a thing, op. I’ve known several Amandas.
I’ve never known anyone of any name known as Moo.

maximist · 27/08/2023 11:58

I had a cat called Minnie, and my neighbour used to call her Minnie Moo. A friend has a granddaughter called Millie, and calls her Millie Moo. I've never worked out why....

TenThousandSpoons · 27/08/2023 11:58

I know a Lucy Loo, Betty Boo, Maxi Moo and Nancy Noo. So I can imagine an Amanda Moo (Mandy Moo) although I’ve never met an Amanda.

TenThousandSpoons · 27/08/2023 11:59

There was a Morag on Married at First Sight who was “Moo” but then she was quite a cow.

CharityJane · 27/08/2023 12:00

I know someone called Amanda who is called Moo and Mandy Moo by her family. I will ask her!

CorylusAgain · 27/08/2023 12:05

It's not a 'thing' I've ever come across and I've known quite a number of Amandas in my time.
Moo and Boo are common pet names or terms of (babyish) endearment often aliteritively e.g. Mia-moo or Molly-moo The m sound in Amanda might be like that.

SnuggleBuggleBoo · 27/08/2023 12:07

If it helps I call my dog Moo, short for Moogie. Her real name is Skye!

Geneticsbunny · 27/08/2023 12:10

Mu is a Greek Cypriot thing which is sometimes added to names to show that people are special and important to you, like close family. Amanda isn't a typical Greek Cypriot name but could that maybe why mu/ moo has been added?

favouriteyellowsocks · 27/08/2023 12:13

I know a dog called Maisie who regularly goes by Maisie-Moo
It's a term of endearment

tallsmallmum · 27/08/2023 12:13

Moo/Mo is Maureen

Needmorelego · 27/08/2023 12:14

I add "Moo" to my daughter's name all the time (she isn't called Amanda). I have no clue when or why I started it.
Her name doesn't rhyme with it either 🤔

lemmein · 27/08/2023 12:24

I can't read Amanda without saying 'a man? Dur' in my head....bloody Friends! 🙄

Never heard the moo reference before.

Merapi · 27/08/2023 12:33

My cousin's nickname is Moo and he is most definitely not an Amanda!

Floralnomad · 27/08/2023 12:35

I’ve never heard of this and I’ve been around a very long time

wasahoarder · 27/08/2023 13:01

My bff is Amanda moo! Or Mandoo

Baneofmyexistence · 27/08/2023 13:16

I’ve no idea but I do that with all sorts of names! My cat is Daisy and we call her Daisy Doo, no idea why. Once a vet called her that as well without me saying it first or prompting it so I think it’s just a thing people do without thinking.

Teisenau · 27/08/2023 13:20

Daisy Doo
Becca Boo
My mum I began calling MuMu and that shortened to Moo
In Black Books, Manby calls his parents Moo-Ma and Moo-Pa; mine are Moo and Poo
It's just a thing, really common

Gx57uvv · 27/08/2023 13:23

I have an neighbour who refers to herself as Mandy Moo. She even has it as a personalised number plate. She is a bitchy cow but I doubt she recognises that.

Totallyterrific · 27/08/2023 11:53

Ive never heard of anyone called Amanda being called that.

Me neither, new to me.

I've heard 'Mandy'.

Whiskyinajar · 27/08/2023 13:29

I'm sometimes called Milly Molly Mandy. Also been called Manda Moo (my mum) no idea why.
