5'3" and just in a size 14 - currently weigh 12 stone.

When I was a "proper" size 12 I was 10 stone

Which begs the question what size I will be when I get down to 11 stone

DarrellRivers · 28/02/2008 10:33

If you weighed 64 kg, then your BMi would be 24.2
Normal BMI for woman would be 19-24, so you are higher limit of normal
Grossly overweight therefore would be a little OTT

OrmIrian · 28/02/2008 10:34

Now I am confused. I am 5'11" and I weigh about 10 stone 12. I'm a size 12. How come, that being the case that I'm not a size 10? If I weigh the same as some of you a good few inches shorter?

Lazycow · 28/02/2008 10:41

Yorkshirepudding

This always happens to me too.

I'm a bit taller than you (5 ft 8) but at my lowest weight ever as an adult I was a size 12-14 and I weighed 12stone 10lbs (I rememeber it fondly )

Nowadays I am a size 14-16 and weigh 14st 10lbs (give or take a few punds)

Emprexia · 28/02/2008 10:42

It's interesting isn't it Orm? My sis is tall, maybe 5'10 and she got down to 10 and a half stone and a size 10 and looked awfully skinny. Now she is 22 weeks preggers and a ten ton Tessa!

When I started losing weight I thought I would need to get down to about 9 stone to be a size 12 but this was not the case and at 9 stone I think I would look terrible and haggard.

I genuinely think some people carry weight better than others. For instance mine is very evenly spread. In some ways this is good but the problem with carrying your weight evenly is that it is difficult to use clothes size to judge your weight gain.

Some of my friends know if they have put on weight very quickly as a lot goes on their tummy or their legs first so clothes get tighter quicker. Uusally a weight gain of 10lbs to 1 stone makes their clothes feel a bit tighter. By the time my clothes get tight I have usually put on 2 stone or more.

Another factor is frame size. My wrist size is 71/2 to 8 inches around the bone (no fat there). This is a medium size even for a man so for a woman I definitely have a large frame.

Also muscle is heavier than fat so the fitter you are the more you can weigh while still being toned and slim looking - can't say I fit in this last category though

prettybird · 28/02/2008 10:52

That's the shortcoming of BMI in a nutshell.

Becasue of muscle wieght etc, George Clooney and Brad Pitt are calssified as obese

it is only a proxy measure and you have to also to apply common sense.

DualCycloneCod · 28/02/2008 10:55

id say that at 5 4 anythign over 10 stone is oevrwight tbh

OrmIrian · 28/02/2008 10:57

lazycow - I must admit that since I've been running regularly I'e toned up a lot and my clothes are looser. I guess that's all the flab converting to muscle. I think I'll leave the scales alone...

My wrist size is 7.5 as well.

lemonstartree · 28/02/2008 10:57

I am 5' 3" and weight about 11 stone. I am a size 12. My BMI is 29 or so, I hav e huge bones (no really) big wrists and am defintely NOT delicate. I would like to be about 10 stone

what do you weigh?

prettybird · 28/02/2008 11:04

No COd, you're right - flab does not turn to muscle. You do indeed burn it off. However at the same time you can build or tone muscle, which does indeed weigh more than fat - and from the desprition that YP gives - would explain her clothes fitting better but still weighing more than she did.

Good docotrs recognise this.

Well yes prettybird. That's what I meant. Flab disappearing, muscle appearing. My hips slope these days rather than bulge and don't wobble. And there is space between the top of my thighs.

DualCycloneCod · 28/02/2008 11:06

yes oyu are significantly overwight.

DualCycloneCod · 28/02/2008 11:07

I'd like to see Cod judging Brad Pitt and condemning him for being overweight!
