Can anyone generate an invitation code for me? I would really appreciate it 🥰

OP posts:

Hi, as far as I can tell, we can't generate invites at the moment. What apparently happened was that registration opened again in July, and admin thinks that some people were trying to mass join at once to disrupt the site so they have paused registration again. It seems as if you will need to keep checking daily to see if it's open again - there is no indication that they won't reopen.

Tambatamba · 08/09/2023 07:12

Sorry I couldn't be more help!

Thanks Tamba. It did let me join in July and I have a login that works etc. just won't let me post once I'm actually logged in which kinda makes it pointless lol

I'll keep trying to email them. Admins are pretty rubbish though. Thanks for trying to help x

Can I please have a code

windywalk · 11/11/2023 21:33

I am praying someone can please send me a referral code. I've been desperate to join for months now and got some excited earlier when the register button didn't just say "sorry tattle is full"
So close but soooo far!!

You can't get a code. I have tried to get codes for people and if I ask about it, on tattle the moderators delete my posts and won't talk about it,

One of the frustrating things about Tattle is how heavily moderated it is. I'd say it's extreme. Maybe that's why they don't want new members because more people means they can't police all the posts.

Tryoshib · 16/11/2023 19:47

I'm on Tattle and I prefer it to mumsnet for the most part but the mods are absolute pricks.

Ilovealido · 17/11/2023 15:35

That’s interesting about the mods on tattle. I can’t post on there (similar to everyone else) but lurk a fair bit & I never see posts hidden as they are on mumsnet. It seems freer in terms of the opinions that are expressed. In what way is it heavily moderated?

I was wondering this. I lurk a lot and sometimes wonder how some posters get away with their comments. Here they would be reported and deleted in 10 seconds flat.

Birchtrees · 17/11/2023 16:22

I had a quick dip in and was frankly horrified by how
unhinged and unpleasant many of the posts are. Just nasty and vitriolic. Can’t see the appeal myself.

CormoranEllacott · 17/11/2023 22:30

It’s a bit like going into a pub with tables with different groups of people sat at them. Quite a few of the tables will be having interesting or funny conversations. Maybe a couple of the tables will be saying things that you don’t like or don’t agree with and maybe you’d really want to avoid the group at one of the tables. So you don’t stop at those tables.

Actually, though, there are quite a few threads where broader opinions are tolerated a lot more than here. There doesn’t seem to be the immediate jump to dismissing a poster or trying to make them feel small as there often is here. They vary.

That’s a great description ! Makes me want to have another look.

I don’t disagree that there aren’t a few threads that aren’t nice, to put it mildly. But I don’t think they’re indicative of the whole place. I’ve seen some really good respectful and supportive discussions there. And some funny ones!

Birchtrees · 17/11/2023 23:05

I’d someone could PM me a code I would be very grateful.

windywalk · 17/11/2023 23:06

The discussions I am on are nothing like Mumsnet. They don't tend to get derailed.
Or personal.

As for moderators I still don't have a login.

Dear Santa... please!

They do stuff like move your post to a completely different thread sometimes which is really annoying and does feel like they are trying to shut down a conversation.

They also delete plenty of comments. They just have a different system to Mumsnet. They will allow comments that MN would delete. But they delete stuff that MN would allow.

Ilovealido · 18/11/2023 11:23

@MyopicBunny , how weird, that’s interesting thanks. Like others I think there are some interesting threads on tattle as well as some pretty deranged ones! I’ve noticed that there’s a bit of self moderation going on too so for example if a poster is rude about the appearance of an influencers child (clearly out of order) then it gets shut down pretty quickly.

It's heavily moderated in terms of certain things only, i.e. they'll allow some pretty horrible posts to stand but things like "tone policing" (in the loosest possible sense) are always shut down, and so are ANY criticisms, however flimsy, of tattle itself or the tattle mods. I wrote a post on the tattle site stuff discussion once asking very politely if something could be done about the fact the adverts on the mobile version of the site take up half the page so that you can't post anything. Not only was that post deleted from the thread but I got a warning for criticising the mods. Which I didn't even do! MN is much better at tolerating critique of MN itself.

The mods are generally just really rude and unkind, I also got a warning once because I didn't create a thread correctly - I didn't do something very minor that I didn't even realise you were meant to do, and I got a really rudely worded warning plus got my ability to report posts taken way?! It's so random the way it's moderated IMO.

BirdiePlantaganet · 19/11/2023 17:57

I was once on a thread where they were slagging off a celeb, from her face to her body to how shit a parent she is and how awful her partner is.

I posted in her defence and got completely piled on and my post was deleted. Seems you’re only allowed to bitch on there. Balance is not welcome.

Had a similar experience. Some of the posters on Tattle come across as deranged if you don't agree with them. Not all.

Ilovealido · 19/11/2023 18:57

Thanks for responding, that so bizarre! The only threads I regularly look at are for Alex Stedman (the frugality) & Ashley James. There was a comment once about Alex’s DD being funny looking & the poster got pulled up on it straight away. Also a similar thing with Ashley James. I suppose it depends a bit on which posters are attracted to which threads. The Charlotte Dawson one is pretty wild though!

Ilovealido · 19/11/2023 18:58

I have to say that whenever I report something on mumsnet or send a query I always get a very courteous response. As you say they are not defensive even when they are being criticised.

CormoranEllacott · 19/11/2023 19:48

The ones there I really can’t stand are the Harry and Meghan ones. They are pretty deranged. But I think they look so deranged that it makes you realise how crazy much of what is said about them is. And that’s coming from someone who is not really their biggest fan. The threads make me feel more sympathetic towards them.

but yet other threads I think have been useful. Perhaps not so much now, but in the early days of influencing, tattle was one of the places you could talk about the insidious marketing that targets often young women and mothers. It really shone a light on some of what was going on there.

SemperIdem · 19/11/2023 20:12

Completely agree with you @CormoranEllacott , the site in its entirety seems relatively fine…until you get to the Harry and Meghan threads. I wonder about some of the posters, it cannot be healthy to so viscerally hate strangers who have caused no real harm.

It’s hatred more deserved by murderers, rapists and paedophiles.
