Well done Harman. (I can not go and get on, was waiting with baited breath)

Pannacotta · 15/02/2008 11:29

well done harman, hope you'll keep us all posted....

AitchTwoOh · 15/02/2008 11:30

that was the right thing, you're not wasting anyone's time. even if they're watching the telly they'll think twice in future.

colditz · 15/02/2008 11:32

Well done Harman

mishymoo · 15/02/2008 11:34

Well done Harman! At least you can "rest easy" now knowing you've done the right thing!

KatyMac · 15/02/2008 11:38

Glad you were able to phone

It's easy for us to say 'phone police/ss/childline' but it is really hard to do it

foxythesnowman · 15/02/2008 11:38

You have, without doubt, done the right thing.

kinki · 15/02/2008 11:39

Well done harman. If their shed is anything like mine and most people's, there would be LOADS of hazards in there, paint, white spirit, tools, hedge clippers, etc etc. It's bad enough to be isolated in the cold like that, but with potentially loads of hazards too is inexcusable. You did the right thing.

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 15/02/2008 11:39

Ring the police.

The SS aren't taking it seriously.

Off to rad rest of thread.

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 15/02/2008 11:41

Could you video if it happens again. You could get sound if not all visual.

Police can remove a child under 'Police Protection' if there is harm or a risk of harm. The case would generally then be passed to SS, who can apply to the Court for an order, or they can get the parents to agree to SS accommodating the child while the situation is addressed.
There are banks of emergency carers who are used to taking children on with no notice, for short periods of time. Carers are extremely stretched these days but even so, if a child is at risk, they will be removed and placed elsewhere.
I think you did the right thing Harman - let the authorities know and they are best placed to investigate the real situation.
Oh, and SS will contact the Police in these sort of cases to see if the Police have had any dealings with the people before, so in a way, it doesn't matter which you call.
I hope the lad is ok - sounds like the family do need support...

LilRedWG · 15/02/2008 13:26

You did the right thing Harman!

Most forces have a Child and Adult Protection Unit for such cases and work very closely with SS (well our force does).

You've done the right thing. If it happens again I would recontact SS and the police - quoting a crime number if they gave you it or giving them date and time you spoke to them last.
