do kids at private school catch nits?

my ds attends the local state primary and great though it is, he constantly is infested with nits.

Anyway, about a year ago a friend of mine moved her ds from the same school to a private one and is always droning on about how great it is.

The latest oneupmanship is that her ds never gets nits now and continued to say they she bets it's a state school epidemic.

i told her that was crap. It is, isnt it?

lol at the boys in private school all combing their hair throughout the day, I thought that was some kind of sterotype they use for TV / film!

pmsl at thread title!

Hulababy · 02/02/2008 13:57

Yes they do!

DD had her very first visitor yesterday. I wet comb with tea tree every weekend, and comb through with fine tooth comb daily. But yesterday morning I think I found one, although no obvious signs of eggs or anything - just thso one little tiny bug.

We have had the letter home 2 or 3 times this term and I know one little girl in DD's class has had it on 3 occassions in past term.

Grrr!

OLDroot · 02/02/2008 13:59

they do but they are a higher class of nit

Oenophile · 02/02/2008 13:59

Definitely crap. Both mine were at prep schools and got nits. And I caught them - arrrrrgh!

moljam · 02/02/2008 14:00

i wonder if nits pay school fees

ChasingSquirrels · 02/02/2008 14:02

your friend is a fuckwit

serenity · 02/02/2008 14:02

LOL I went to a faith school and never had nits (but had worms)

DCs go to a faith school and have never had nits (but get worms)

If god's going to smite the nits, can he aim a bit lower and get the bloody threadworms as well?

FrannyandZooey · 02/02/2008 14:03

it might be true if the school excludes children with lice until they are treated

they do this in the US and lice are a very small problem compared to what we have here

UnquietDad · 02/02/2008 14:04

Do you think the nits pay a premium to move to a different area for better hair?

moljam · 02/02/2008 14:14

i think they must have to

newgirl · 02/02/2008 14:16

my dd at state primary and has never had nits

the private school kids i know have dreadful social skills - is that catching?

fullmoonfiend · 02/02/2008 14:18

Ah you get a better class of threadworm at our school. These ae not just any threadworm. These are organically fed, pesticide-free threadworm, reared exclusively on Marks and Spencer's Finest range...

nortynamechanger · 02/02/2008 14:34

Now, now newgirl even private school children have feelings.

NMC nits around here not disablist, DS has had them more than DD.

At my DC's independent school they gave the parents some stern warnings at the start of the Autumn term to check. One week into term (without informing the parents) each child had their head checked and the parents, of any child found to have lice, were notified.

I think this was a great idea have been an awful lot less problems since this
parental shaming occured.

snorkle · 02/02/2008 18:29

there's a private school round here that a while ago sent home a letter to the whole school instructing everyone to treat all their children (regardless of whether they appeared to be infected or not) with anti-nit stuff on the same day. They seemed to think this would be more effective in controlling the out break than everyone doing their own thing in their own time.

Desiderata · 02/02/2008 18:32

I never had nits.

Nothing at all to do with class, you understand. I'm just fucking frightening

OLDroot · 02/02/2008 18:32

I found a nit in dd hair who was playing the violin

DarthVader · 02/02/2008 18:38

If your friend is always playing at one upmanship just play along for a laugh! Tell her you think she is right, and say that they even have a better class of cold at private schools too. Also that you have heard that the parents and kids are generally better looking as well and ask her if she finds that to be true.

Desiderata · 02/02/2008 18:42

Yes, tell her that privately educated children may contract the novovirus, whereas your poor, state educated kids are more likely to catch the hobovirus.

SugarSkyHigh · 02/02/2008 18:54

snorkle - they were quite right!
that's the best way to do it. Except that quite often people just cannot be bothered to treat their dc properly, and it just keeps going round and round and round.

and for the record, private schools are just as rife as state....... but we all know that really, don't we?

jeremyspants · 03/02/2008 11:15

Children in state schools catch nits.
Children in private schools catch pediculus humanus capitis.
Children in Scottish schools catch beesties.

Desiderata · 04/02/2008 00:56

But you see, they like clean hair.

Which is precisely why I never caught nits as a kid. One bath a week is more than enough for anybody.

Much food for thought there, whether you're a slob or a knob!

MrsJohnCusack · 04/02/2008 01:00

this is a friend?

tell her to fark off. honestly.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 04/02/2008 01:06

LOL at "hobovirus".

No, they dont get nits and their shit/faeces doesnt stink. Absolutely true.

I never had nits as a child but my brothers did. I put it down to my not having many friends and being somewhat shy/antisocial. After all, you can't get nits without close contact.......

ifnotwhynot · 06/02/2008 10:27

Anyone else got an itchy head?
