I freely admit to regularly buying OK! & The National Enquirer

If you don't read these rags what do you read?
I have tried Good Housekeeping but it was too dull

i am newly subscribed to the New Scientist and Private Eye. how fucking highbrow is that?? [impressed with self] they are both v interesting reads as it goes.

i also still have grazia coming coz the bird on the phone conned me into a subscription with the promise of a free bag [shallow]

i live in the middle of farking nowhere tho. mags and the internet are my only link to the world outside rural hampshuh [stir crazy]

oxocube · 23/01/2008 20:33

none unless I am in the hairdressers and they always seem to have Elle and Vogue which send me to sleep

Miaou · 23/01/2008 20:36

I don't buy magazines any more at all - trying not to buy anything unnecessary this year in my bid to be more eco-friendly! Very sad to hear Eve has gone downhill; I was the second person they featured in their "Women doing their own thing" section so feel a little loyalty to it

The only magazine I occasionally buy is Knitting. And only then if I am absolutely sure I am going to knit one of their patterns!

Izzybel · 23/01/2008 20:43

God I'm reeeeally boring! I read Practical Parenting magazine, but thats because I need lessons on how to be one. I used to read all the magazines like "Company" or something like that but it just doesn't seem like my lifestyle anymore .

crapcook · 23/01/2008 20:46

I work for a financial newspaper so read Economist, WSJ, FT etc in work.

In contrast, I freely admit to sometimes buying whichever sleb mag is boasting the most shocking headline from the train station in the morning. It is an mindless read for the 20 or so minutes that I am stood, packed sardine-like, on the train into the City.

Sometimes buy Vogue but that is becoming less of a regular thing since I had D, turned into a boglin and found the local Primark.

Always read DP's music mags.

Read 'normal' broadsheets online.

I went to my mum's last weekend and ended up reading about 5 Take a Break magazines. Some of the stories in there...man there are some weirdos about. I couldn't help but keep reading though.

Izzybel · 23/01/2008 20:50

My mum gets Take A Break and I always read it when I'm at hers . There are some weirdos about aren't there!? Every time we go on holiday DP gets Bizzarre Magazine to read on the plane. Has anyone ever read that? It is freaky deaky! There was a section with pictures of people and you had to guess whether the people in the pictures were alive or dead .

EachPeachPearHun · 23/01/2008 21:22

Hate all sleb mags.

We have subscriptions to
Private Eye
Elle Decoration
Living etc

always pinch MIL's delicious to go through too (well- we gave her the subscription last birthday so... )

We used to have new scientist on subscription too, but never had time to read any more.
Occasionally get spectator or economist too.

I'm impressed at how many people above read Private Eye- all the best people do you know, so no surprise they're all on here!

OriginalFlame · 23/01/2008 22:38
ChasingSquirrels · 23/01/2008 22:41

Red (saw a 12 issues for £12 offer) & Eve (tesco vouchers )
plus Accountancy

MrsArchieTheInventor · 23/01/2008 22:43

The Times and local papers usually. I've gone right off 'celeb' tittle tattle and I can't be doing with reading about who's boning who and who's got a new perfume/lipstick/clothing range out. The only magazines I read (albeit infrequently) are Red and The Economist.

BearMama · 25/01/2008 15:19

Agree Goat - but only after I'd spent years reading them! I used to read Grazia but since being pg have lost interest - also feel that on my budget they are overpriced, so take advantage of "3 issues for £1 subscription offers" on Marie Claire and Instyle.

doggiesayswoof · 25/01/2008 15:33

Bust
LRB
(subscriptions to both of those)

I'm bored to tears by "women's" mags.
If you read the Guardian and have a quick swatch at the G2 you don't need to read sleb mags, cos it's all in there.

Brain, Child looks interesting

Scramble · 25/01/2008 15:36

I hate the Celeb ones,

I used to ead Marie Claire occasionally when it still did th hard hitting articles, but they don't seem to do them any more.

Sometimes get Red or similar if flying and want something easy to flick through. I like a foody magazine every now and then.

I get novels from charity shops (cheaper than magazines) and that keeps me amused most of the time.

MamaMaiasaur · 25/01/2008 15:36

Subscribe to Private Eye and the Radio Times. Also have observer mags which are perused through the week.

I tend to read novels though

yetanothername · 25/01/2008 16:27

Economist, Time and Total Film.

When I was in my late teens I used to love New Woman, it had really good in depth articles in it, like women under the Taliban before anyone cared and the like. Then it changed to purely hair and make-up and sex. It still makes me ANGRY to this day.

"women's" magazines make me feel sick with their self-centred, looks obsessed, materialism.

serenity · 25/01/2008 16:36

Subscribe to SFX and Total Film, and leaf through DHs Nintendo/PS/X Box mags if I'm really bored.

'Womens' magazines make me all twitchy.

(Hello sfxmum, do you go on the sfx forum at all?)

Nymphadora · 25/01/2008 16:42

Whatever my Mam hands me down!

I read v. quickly so don't tend to buy them as they only last me 30 mins.

I do occaisionally buy Dr Who though

CoteDAzur · 25/01/2008 16:49

Prospect
Wired
Vanity Fair
If I have some time to kill, Marie Claire/Elle.

sfxmum · 26/01/2008 13:20

no serenity just occasional lurking
it is bit scary sometimes

serenity · 26/01/2008 14:08

LOL, I think we're scarier sometimes, but they do get a bit het up on the DW threads don't they If you spot me whilst you're lurking, you'll see from my rather pathetic post count that I tend to lurk more than post too.
