Should I move and give us all a fresh start ?

I registered on a HA exchange site and someone is very very interested in swaping homes with me.

Basically i'd be swapping from a 4 bed to a 12mth old 3 bed about 20/30 min away by car. It is in a place that I know (roughly) and have always wanted to live. Trouble is, I don't drive so it actually makes it more like an hour away on public transport. That doesn't bother me, but I know it would upset my mum and annoy xp, who has literally just moved 2 min away from us.

As I said, I would be moving away from my mum who is currently my only family support, and also xp who I have nothing nice to say about at the moment, but he is the kids dad obviously.

I feel really really selfish for even considering it but at the same time I feel like I need to do it, I need a fresh start and 2 get some independance. Plus the house needs nothing at all doing to it, whereas mine needs lots doing, which I just cannot afford to do.

If I only had to consider myself then i'd not think twice but obviously I have the kids to think about.

I need to decide wether to take this any further and view the house ( have seen pics), and let the other person view mine. I don't want to mess anyone around.

I am on most of those, and have found homeswapper the best tbh.

I would be downsizing, so it does happen.

Luckily for me, I am the only person in my area on most of the sites who wants to go from a 4 bed to a 3 bed, so fingers crossed I will get alot of interest.

No sorry, we are renting so we can get out of this area giving up on the council housing route as it is useless.

Where we are going is cheaper for shared ownership so hoping to do that in about 1 yr.

Have got to find a job next.

Nutty i would look at the houses & let them look at yours then make your decision on how you feel, normally you get a feeling about a place/house & know it will be right, thats what happened to me & now all systems go.

Off to visit the school with ds on thursday should be interesting, ds is adament he is taking all his friends from the school he is at now

magnolia74 · 21/01/2008 13:59

You should get loads

Ive decided I may accept a 3 bed if large, I squeeze 5 kids in here so may as well do it somewhere else if it gets us starting afresh

chocolatespiders · 21/01/2008 13:59

i would say go for it...after reading some of your recent posts....

what sites are you on i didnt know there was online sites to exchange.. i have got a card in local council...

Well my mum still works Cod, so there are times even here when I need her to have them and she cant, but I always fnd a way around it, normally b y rearrnaging whatever I was going to do.

My mum would definatly have more of a problem with the distance than me, as I have meneitoned moving there before and she wasn't impressed.

to be honest nutty i would say you would have a pick of a bunch of places if you are downsizing... so may be worth waiting and pick the best which suits

nutcracker · 21/01/2008 14:03

There are some rough estates, but thankfully I know where they are, and it's not by them.

At the end of the day, if i went to look and it was no good then thats fine as i'm not in any hurry, well apart from having to apply for secondary school for dd1 next school year

Erm I did answer about the kids being at school

I haven't asked them their opinions yet because what is the point until I know if the move is definatly an option.

posieflump · 21/01/2008 14:05

sorry just seen it now Will you still be near enough for them to go to the same school?

nutcracker · 21/01/2008 14:06

Not with the first house no, but with the second option yes.

posieflump · 21/01/2008 14:08

I would go for it, it all sounds very exciting and you sound like you need something good to happen

The lady with the house in Lichfield has just got back to me. She has 2 girls aged 3 and 10, and then her boyfriends 2 girls stay of a weekend and school hols, and they are 11 and 14.
I don't think the HA will go for that, but will ask and see.

posieflump · 21/01/2008 14:13

ooh she sounds keen!

nutcracker · 21/01/2008 14:14

She is because she used to live on the same estate I am on, infact I think her dd1 and mine might have been in the same class, spooky eh.

I would move to Lichfield in a shot. especially if i had a child coming up to secondary school age. Its a direct train route to sutton also isnt? Its not far at all.

nutcracker · 21/01/2008 17:06

Yep it is direct emma, and takes about 15 min at the most
According to the lady i've been talking to, you can walk it into lichfield, in which case I could walk to the station.

The schools are another plus emma. I am lucky in that I have the choice of at least 2 good secondarys here, but in Lichfield Dd1 would be in the catchment for King Edwards which is supposed to be very good.
