what names did your parents have prepared for you before your birth? If I'd been a boy, I'd have been christened Maximillian.

As things panned out, I was very nearly called Harriott. yes, spelled like that. Like Ainsley.

I was going to be called Daniel if a boy.

Oddly though my brother, born 16 months later wasn't called that. My dad wanted to call him Martin but my mum wouldn't have it at all. It's now his middle name as a compromise.

My sister was also going to be called Daniel (born 10 years later than me) so my parents must have gone back to their original way of thinking.

Jennisaurus · 24/11/2004 18:07

My dad wanted to call me Karen, but my mum said it was too boring.

If I had been a boy I would have been David.

My mother was very nearly called "Pompoon" (her father had a bet on in the Kentucky Derby and she was born on Derby day). Fortunately a) War Admiral won and b) my grandfather hadn't bet on War Admiral, quite possibly a worse name for a girl than "Pompoon"! My grandfather might have relented, but as his father was named "Foxhall" might not.

smellymelly · 25/11/2004 11:34

Fiona, or Harvey if I was a boy...

CountessDracula · 25/11/2004 11:37

India or Laura

Don't know about boy's names, but my dad wanted to call my brother Quatermass Ignatius (oh god!!!)_

Aero · 25/11/2004 11:44

My Grandfather thought as I was the first girl, I should be named after his little sister who died from measles at age7. Very sad. Her name was Sadie and though I think it's quite cute now, I'm eternally grateful my parents made their own choice! I can't imagine getting through school in the 80's if Granda had his way!

SantaFio2 · 25/11/2004 11:45

ds1 was going to be bethany rebecca if he was a girl
dd was going to be ben harvey if she was a boy
ds2 was going to be molly elizabeth if he was a girl.

marialuisa · 25/11/2004 11:52

Luis Antonio Dafydd if a boy...

My father wanted to call me Evangelia. Mum won and I have a very ordinary Biblical first name.

alais · 25/11/2004 12:26

Ghislaine Alison (I know - unpronounceable, esp. with a surname that sounds like a gurgling drain). Wanted to call my dd Serafina (she's no angel) or Serena (she ain't serene at all) so she'll be relieved her dad put his foot down (and named her after two of my colleagues??!)

xx
