My mum is about to send off for her passport. She needs to have it signed by a "proffesional" person and I suggested her friend who is a nurse.

My mum's husband however insisted on taking the passport form to work with him to get his boss to sign it. His boss is a director of a construction firm and he thinks that makes him a proffesional person.

I could be wrong...but I don't think he will class as a "professional person".

I told my mum I'd ask on here though and assured her that one of you will know!

I used to sign them for customers when I was a publican

(obviously, if I'd known them for 2 years or more - not the ones who were just passing through)

Can't do it if relative, even if only by marriage

You need to have known the person for at least two years (there's a space on the application form where you say how long you've known them for).

If it's a baby you are signing for then you have to have known the person applying for the passport for at least two years .

you can get people like local shopkeepers, post office etc too as they are considered to have standing in the community

I have signed quite a few as a company director

tho i never quite understood how the related thing works if they are eg brothers of your dp

think technically that might not be allowed

Can Dental nurses sign as we're now registered?

I have a degree and a (lapsed) professional qualification. I signed for my cleaner's child's passport and it was fine; I made it clear I was no longer practising in my particular profession therefore wasn't on a register and didn't have a business address. it was fine.
