At a pub quiz recently there was a round on each decade since the 60's.

60's we scored 14/20
70's 16/20
80's 20/20
90's 6/20
00's 0/20

This performance, combined with a newspaper article which said that you need to keep doing and experiencing new things to keep your brain young and to stay in touch and to fend off the dreaded Alzheimers made me realise that 2008 was the time to listen to some new stuff. What should it be?

just got back on and see i have a lot to listen to. Just going to give some a whirl now. Liked Angelis a lot. Not in London but can listen on digital i should think will give it a whirl. Don't want to read magazines, don't want to work that hard at it

hello 'Mr Heels' here. Have been told by Miss Heels to wade in seeing as I used to work in music (have been a DJ for 5 years too) - don't worry though, not going to be a music fascist

Why not have a try at:

The Thirst (early Blur-ish)
Doves (if you like downtempo stuff, you'll love these guys)
Elbow (ditto)
The Cloud Room
Alison Krauss (Norah Jones/Katie Melua-ish, but bluegrass - ace)
Sufjan Stevens (relaxing, amazing)
Ralph Myerz and the Jack Herren Band - this is my slightly arse-y suggestion, because no-one's ever heard of them (witness the sigh Miss Heels just gave when I typed it), but they just write beautiful music
Jack Penate's worth a stab
Amp Fiddler
Black Grass

enjoy x

This blog aurgasm has tons of recommendations for music - some of it way odd, and some just lovely. I've linked to it as a couple of years ago he was linking to tracks by Madeleine Peyroux and a couple of others on your list, so maybe you'll find something you like.

I would also recommend the pixies if you have never heard them, they may be 80's/90's but they are great haven't aged at all. I got into them 10 years too late through my sister and haven't looked back, Frnk Black stuff is also good.
