Driving round and round Tesco's today, as usual no m&b parking slots, we have two little ones in the back. I spot an RAC van going into one - no kids. Bravely decided to ask if he wouldn't mind moving as he seemed to have parked in m&b spot in error. Tells me to bog off. Dh gets out, asks politely, no result until dh asks for his name, surprisingly he gave it, and we take his reg. RAC van driver reverses out of spot at a rate of knots in a whirl of smoke, and we get to park in said spot.

Wonder if he'd hop in a disabled bay in just the same way?

erm I manage without a m and b spot (never one free) and I have three! It is possible although I agree annoying when people who obviously have no children park in them. Don't think I would ever feel strongly enough to confront anyone though...

Someone had a go at me when ds2 was newborn. I'd left him in the car with my mum whilst I went into Sainsburys. Irate man and woman stopped and told me off. I told him to go and have a proper look as I had a new baby in there. He didn't, didn't apologise either.

DoubleBluff · 03/01/2008 14:03

good for you pcainofan!
Not a good advert fot the RAC is he?

Enid · 03/01/2008 14:04

aha if you were leaving baby in car with your mum you didnt really NEED a m and b spot then did you...?

branflake81 · 03/01/2008 14:04

At the risk of being lynched, I have to say that I don't think parent and child spaces can be compared to disabled. Disabled spaces are a right, p&c spaces merely a privelege. I think a lot of parents get on their high horse about people without kids parking in them. It's not the end of the world, there are other spaces.

hunkermunker · 03/01/2008 14:05

Cornsilk, if you'd left the baby in the car, why did you need a P&C space?

OP, well done, now achieve something.

Twiggypiggy · 03/01/2008 14:05

Mine our too old now to use m&b spots, but I would not have thought twice about confronting someone.

In fact I remember that we were pulling out of one when mine were small and an "older" driver with no children was waiting to pull straight into our space. Behind him was a Mum with four little ones in her car. My DH got out and told the "older" driver that there was someone behind him with a greater need.

He did go and park somewhere else.

But aren't the spaces provided to make it easier to get baby and buggy etc OUT of the car - not to leave 'em in it?

Because I was a few days after giving birth and very sore. Wanted to be close and in and out.

hunkermunker · 03/01/2008 14:08

DH parks in them if I'm just popping into shop to get something and leaving boys in the car with him. I like the frisson of excitement I get from wondering whether I'll be accosted by some foaming at mouth lunatic who thinks she has a god-given right to park near the door because she has given birth.

Never have yet, more's the pity.

hunkermunker · 03/01/2008 14:09

Obv I'd never park in a disabled space (now - did when I had a badge) - but having had to use them, I appreciate the need for disabled spaces and the precious nature of those who think P&C spaces are necessary.

Washersaurus · 03/01/2008 14:10

Sounds like a new sport hunker - you thrill seeker!

flowerybeanbag · 03/01/2008 14:11

I parked in one the other night!

DS was not in the car , the car park was virtually empty (the only reason there was a p&c space free in the first place) and I was late for a hair appointment so parked next to the lift...

StealthPolarBear · 03/01/2008 14:12

how come the last P&T thread I read had loads of people agreeing with the OP, whereas every other one runs along these lines?

08aGreatYearForCarmenere · 03/01/2008 14:12

Well it has been a while, weeks even, since we have had one of these threads........

Washersaurus · 03/01/2008 14:13

Did I mention that a member of staff in Waitrose actually encouraged me to steal dried apricot by offering to DS1 whilst shopping

hunkermunker · 03/01/2008 14:13

SPB, maybe I didn't see the last one

I always post "yeah yeah well done, now get something proper to occupy your time" type messages on threads like this.

Because it seems to occupy so many waking hours for so many women and I think it's a kindness to say to them.

ComeOVenReadyturkey · 03/01/2008 14:13

New year, new topics anyone????

pacinofan · 03/01/2008 14:15

Agree with previous poster re disabled slots - clearly, m&b spots are a 'luxury' and not a necessity. I was just wondering if he would have the same disregard for someone with a disability that really needed to be near store?

In answer to question re reporting him, no, I won't. I really don't think his manager would be that interested, besides, he did move, albeit in a huff. I wouldn't normally confront someone, but today I suppose I had just had enough. Also helps to have support of another person, i.e dh.

I think I have just found the real reason people buy those 'reborn' dolls.....

hunkermunker · 03/01/2008 14:16

And it's usually posters called things like mummytoshazzatwinkle4585 who post in disagreement with me and they're not real people, so I don't care.
