Driving round and round Tesco's today, as usual no m&b parking slots, we have two little ones in the back. I spot an RAC van going into one - no kids. Bravely decided to ask if he wouldn't mind moving as he seemed to have parked in m&b spot in error. Tells me to bog off. Dh gets out, asks politely, no result until dh asks for his name, surprisingly he gave it, and we take his reg. RAC van driver reverses out of spot at a rate of knots in a whirl of smoke, and we get to park in said spot.

Wonder if he'd hop in a disabled bay in just the same way?

Actually- wouod be very tempted to report hm for telling someone to bog off whilst representing his work as he did, more so than the M&B place tbh. Loads of people would get a complete b***king for that.

PeachyHasAFiggyPudInTheOven · 03/01/2008 14:20

(And can I just say that if i cant see the point of M&B with my big espace, ebing 27 weeks pg and huge, with 3 small boys two of whom are disabled and get high rate DLA care but no blue badge for bizarre reasons best known to DLA, then frankly my sympathy is non-existent for those who claim to need them)

StealthPolarBear · 03/01/2008 14:23

lol hunker
wasn't having a go at anyone, but genuinely curious (I think I asked at the time as well)
Personally I am in the minority that I think these spaces are very useful for pg women and new mums (especially when you are still getting the entire car seat out), in effect the store is suggesting that people are polite enough to leave these spaces for people who can use the extra space and it would be nice if people went along with that. Would be very happy for this to be extended to "anyone who need extra space" e.g. someone who has a very bulky item to get in/out of car, elderly person who would just prefer to open doors wide but can see how that would be hard to enforce.
Phew what a rant

kittywise · 03/01/2008 14:25

bloody hell not this old chestnut AGAIN

StealthPolarBear · 03/01/2008 14:29

On other sections of the board don't people get told off for saying "I never had a problem so think you're exaggerating"

newnamefornewyearbookwormmum · 03/01/2008 14:29

My dd(7) wanted me to park in one the other day. I was too scared to in case I got accosted although they do say parent and child and there were 3 children and 2 parents in my car. I'd have had to throw 2 children and 1 parent out of my car in order to qualify .

StealthPolarBear · 03/01/2008 14:30

newname - you need to post that in the pedants' section I think

tiredemma · 03/01/2008 14:30

how on earth did our parents cope without that extra smidgen of space?

I loathe P&T bays- they bring out the very worst in people

StealthPolarBear · 03/01/2008 14:31

same as they coped without a lot of stuff that make life a lot easier today
They're not the end of the world, but neither is most stuff we use as new parents

newnamefornewyearbookwormmum · 03/01/2008 14:33

My Mum used to "walk" to the shops and push it all back on the bottom of the pram. She didn't take her test until I was 15!!

yurt1 · 03/01/2008 14:33

oooh the first M&B parking thread of 2008.

hunkermunker · 03/01/2008 14:34

Thing is, P&C are a "nice to have". I use them if there's one free. If there's not, I don't wait with a harpoon to get the person who's parked in them "illegally" - I park somewhere else.

I just don't see why it's the big knicker-knotting event that it seems to be for some women. I've heard this sort of thing in RL too - women get all pursed lipped and grim-faced about some sports car driver parking in "their" space.

StealthPolarBear · 03/01/2008 14:35

I love a good M&B bust up!

yurt1 · 03/01/2008 14:35

it's a generation of princesses.

StealthPolarBear · 03/01/2008 14:35

better than eastenders

newnamefornewyearbookwormmum · 03/01/2008 14:36

I think respecting disabled spaces are more important for several reasons than P & C spaces but I can understand the frustation it causes when you see one being misused. I hope that the OP does complain to the RAC - the rudeness from the van driver would bug me more than the space being mis-used. I doubt if I'd have said anything to him though.

hunkermunker · 03/01/2008 14:36

It SO is, Yurt. All called, as I say, things like mummytocutesywootsy5478454 on here.

yurt1 · 03/01/2008 14:36

& princes. some father get bizarrely rabid about it all as well. save the blood pressure. stretch your legs, enjoy the walk (fetch a trolley if you have a manic child who can't be trusted ina car park).

StealthPolarBear · 03/01/2008 14:37

newname, definitely! Not getting a M&T space might be a pain, not getting a disabled space may mean turning round & going home.

yurt1 · 03/01/2008 14:38

actually in our tescos the spaces are apparently wider for people to get pushchairs out -according to the signs- but no-one who drives uses a pushchair they use trolleys. the signs should say they''re there to market to the princesses.

SheikYerbouti · 03/01/2008 14:38

when I were a lass we used to have to get 4 buses to the supermarket in the snow, it would take us 7 hours to get there and 7 hours to get home. and then when we got home, me dad would make us eat gravel and then kill us.

M&B spaces are not the be all and end all. If it makes you that pissed off, you need to re-examine what's important in your life, IMHO

I have a top tip: If there isn't a space in the M&B spaces, GO AND PARK SOMEWHERE ELSE. Novel, I know, but it works.

Wisteria · 03/01/2008 14:38

I have a distinct sense of deja vu.....

Boco · 03/01/2008 14:38

These threads are comfortingly repetitive aren't they?

yurt1 · 03/01/2008 14:39

has anyone mentioned that their baby might get wet if its raining yet?

Blandmum · 03/01/2008 14:39

Boco, are you standing on the Red Rug, while you do it, draped in your table cloth???
