In which bit of London would you choose to live?

I moved to Islington in the summer. As I expected, it's a very mixed area - some posh bits, some rough bits. I know the whole of London is like this, pretty much, but this area seems particularly polarised. Anyway, to get to the point, I am thinking about moving again in the new year, in fact I'm going to look at a flat in Bayswater this weekend, and from the minimal investigations I've done it seems to me that Bayswater will suit me much better.

I'm loving living in London, and ideally I want to be somewhere central, buzzing (i.e. not quiet residential but lots of shops/restaurants etc), not too posh, not too rough and preferably further west.

Any recommendations for me? Where would you choose and why?

there's a lovely greek orthodox church in moscow rd, isn't there? i was at the top end nr the porchester baths bit. loved getting the no.23 bus to work and being able to stroll to the park and pick up something lovely from whiteleys

spacemonkey · 18/11/2004 16:11

ooh i do hope it's nice inside - it'll certainly be smaller than the place i'm in, but now there's just the 2 of us i don't need as much space really

dp was doing a job up there and just rang me to describe it from the outside - he said it has big windows, high ceilings and a balcony on the lower floor.

LOVE the idea of being so near kensington gardens. Earl's Court within easy distance but not too close

DelGirl · 18/11/2004 17:03

db and dsil surely must have some idea as they have residences in nearly every part of london . Can't believe you're going to give up that fab house!

doobydoo · 18/11/2004 17:10

Loved living in Ealing but place i would go back to is Chelsea/fulham good vibe loads to do.
Have fun looking!

spacemonkey · 18/11/2004 17:18

Hello DG, well I won't give it up unless I find something that I like just as much, but I'm quite happy to have something smaller and no garden if the area's right. Must say though, this house is great so I won't be heartbroken if I have to stay here.

she wants to be closer to her swain

DelGirl · 18/11/2004 17:21

Something'll turn up soon enough

spacemonkey · 18/11/2004 17:21

Chelsea is nice too although probably a bit lah-di-dah for me. I got all annoyed last time I went out down the Kings Road after being jostled by hoorays, it wasn't much better than being jostled by chavs tbh.

And at this rate I'll only be needed a bedsit - just spoke to the kids and dd is saying that xh is going to lodge an appeal with the LEA to get her back into her old school.

DelGirl · 18/11/2004 17:24

yeah, and you won't be able to take your trolley for a stroll either . And you'll be missing out on that fab organic pub, 15 & carluccio's! When we went to that pub for the 1st time, my bro said he'd be happy to have a place with no kitchen and he'd just go and eat there everyday but then he says that about alot of places.

spacemonkey · 18/11/2004 17:25

well i can always visit islington for the good bits!

DelGirl · 18/11/2004 17:26

true! But what about the trolley, dolly

spacemonkey · 18/11/2004 17:27

I'll turn into a mad old lady wheeling a tiny tears doll around bayswater in my old woman shopping trolley

DelGirl · 18/11/2004 17:28

sorry I missed that. Does dd want to go back to her old school then or is xh just trying to p&ss you off?

spacemonkey · 18/11/2004 17:28

She wants to go back I think, in fact they both want me to move back to Colchester, but I really don't want to.

OP posts:
lou33 · 18/11/2004 17:29

sorry, but HAHAHAHAHA. I can see you doing exactly that!

They will be back btw, when they get fed up with catching chicken legs thrown over enery VIII's shoulder, and mucking out his horses.
