There are loads of these words in UK.

Someone should make a board game of it.

Round here there are lots of places ending in -ow. This being Germany you would think the w is pronounced v, but no, the endings are pronounced 'oh', in quite an 'English' fashion in fact. Made a bit of a fool of myself when I first came here.
