My Dd1 (7), is really interested in it and keeps asking if she can do it.

I don't know anything about it, and just wondered if anyone else did.

TIA xxx

Nope but i did for a long long time, it's fabulous, what do you want to know. I'd let her go for it.

nutcracker · 16/11/2004 21:42

Ooooh is it really FF. I have to admitt i love watching it, think it looks lovely.

Dd already does ballet and is very good at it but saw some irish dancing on Balamory of all things and has been on about it ever since.

I am having alot of trouble finding out somewhere that does it though.

Are the costumes expensive ? I had heard that they were but that was a long time ago.
Only other question was how strict is it ??? Her ballet teacher is quite strict and i think it actually does Dd good, but obvioulsy it also needs to be enjoyable.

Nutcracker - its not all riverdance you know. The costumes are expensive and tbh it is very competitive. Have you seen the wigs they wear? I am Irish and wouldn't let my daughter do it. A lot of it has gone down the American Pageant route. Now shoot me everyone.

fairyfly · 16/11/2004 21:50

Well they are expensive the fancier you get but when i started i just wore a dress. I doubt they will expect the uniform unless she goes for competitions which is the way you progressed when i did irish dancing. I also did ballet. Ballet was a lot more serious and exam based, while irish dancing was a lot more competitive and social. If she was to love it, ebay sells cheaper dresses. She will need the shoes though.

fairyfly · 16/11/2004 21:52

I think it depends on the class and teacher you find, mine certainly wasn't competitive and he was in river dance.

nutcracker · 16/11/2004 22:15

Are they wigs then Miss H, i didn't realise that.

Thanks for all that FF, i will let you know if i find a class

nutcracker · 16/11/2004 22:22

I honeslty didn't realise they were wigs.
I always wondered how the hell they got it sooooo curly

Anyhow wigs aside, if she wants to give it a go and i can find a class, it's fine by me.

She may have to eventually choose between the ballet and irish dancing as i am no millionaire, but we'll see.

FF think yourself lucky was also an Irish dancer as a younger/thinner/fitter child and my mum used to make my hair look like those damm wigs. Went to bed with rags in, hair pulled so tight my eyes were slanted and head itched like I had nits! Then she wondered why I couldn't sleep . I am also ginger so as you can imagine look lurvely.

nutcracker · 16/11/2004 22:34
