Hello, everyone, it's lovely to get all these messages. Yes, indeed, Mumsnet is helping. If I can't go out and see people, then cyberfriends are just perfect to chat to.
My gut reaction is that I want to stay, Sobernow. As always in these situations, it's the few that spoil it for the many. Most people here are lovely, easy going and friendly and I hope as expats we also contribute to this country in return. But, but, but....these things are easy to say when it's just yourself to think about. When you have children to consider, the decision is not so clear cut.
Today, however, we haven't had the avalanche of security advisories that engulfed us yesterday, so I am assuming things are calming down. If any good comes of this awful event, it may be that Megawati and her govt now take the terrorist threat seriously. Until the weekend they've pussy-footed around it and sadly have paid the price.
Re the girls. The 6yr old seems not to understand, thank goodness. She is a bit miffed about not being able to go anywhere at half term but isn't really questioning why. The 15yr old is very philosophical about things and doesn't seem overly worried, although of course is sad for what has happened, but she doesn't take things personally, like I tend to. She's ill today, in any case - says she's dying from sinusitis!!!
It's wonderfully uplifting to think of you all thinking of me - "thank you" seems a pretty inadequate thing to say in return but I do appreciate your thoughts.
