I think you've recently moved to Indonesia. Hope you're nowhere near Bali, and are safe and well.

It's a depressing situation to be in and with DD1 we're stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea. She's had to go back a year, into Yr10, to re-start her exam course so if we go home to Scotland she'll either have to stick with Yr10 equivalent there, meaning all her pals are in the year above, or she'll go into her correct age year but with the loss of four months of course teaching, no prelims and Standard Grade exams in 5 mths time. I'm trying not to think about because I simply can't see a solution.

We went to a meeting today to see whether the school can reopen later this week. Both the school and the Brit ambassador feel it is safe to do so, not because the threat has gone away but because the school has moved from being a 'soft' target to a 'hard' target. In other words, they have put lots of security measures in place, such as armed police and commandoes with automatic weapons, as well as tightening other procedures such as checking people and moving vehicles away from buildings.

I don't know whether to send them back. DD1 has had lots of work from school - they've used their website to distribute it, and dd2 has had some. I've been thinking about home-educating DD2 but seeing as we've already fallen out over the work she's had from school, I'm not sure the idea isn't dead in the water!

Being a Brit as opposed to from the US isn't any protection. We're seen as white and that's enough. It's such a shame because we enjoy being here, the people we know are lovely and I'm keen to get out of the city and explore places but we can't at the moment. We all hope things will calm down and that more of the Bali suspects are caught. It looks at the moment that all of the various incidents that have occured here connect back to one man so if they can capture him it could make a big difference.

BTW, the 48hr loo 'event' I mentioned before. I'd had several other similar episodes and my friend in Scotland diagnosed a bacterial gut infection over the phone and told me to see the dr. She was right!! A course of antibiotics soon sorted it out.
