Considering the people, schools, amenities, shops, bars, restaurants, traffic, surrounding countryside where would you choose for you and your kids to live in the UK + why?

Nantwich in Cheshire, love it.

Gobbledigook · 06/11/2004 20:26

Meant 'am I'!

Gobbledigook · 06/11/2004 20:27

Not far from me Secondhandrose!

jampot · 06/11/2004 20:27

no GDG - I will go check my email

yoyo · 06/11/2004 20:27

Have to agree with Hatter. Lived in Oxford for 12 years (if you count being a student) and every time I go back it feels like home.

JJ · 06/11/2004 20:28

Hackney!

hatter · 06/11/2004 20:33

Hi again Fisil, I looked a couple of years ago and was devastated to find out that house prices in North Oxford are the same as round here. We were kind of hoping that moving there would be a step down. there's no way we could earn the same so no, can't afford it (yet!)either

jampot · 06/11/2004 20:33

Im in Solihull - 10 mins from Bham International, less for the countryside, 20 mins or so into Brum etc etc.

GDG - Ive replied to your email - thanks

marthamoo · 06/11/2004 20:34

I am quite near Nantwich.

Gobbledigook · 06/11/2004 20:36

Are you marthamoo - didn't realise there were people 'near' me. Never come across anyone! I'm not in Nantwich but close.

yoyo · 06/11/2004 20:36

Why oh why didn't we buy in Oxford all those years ago when it was far less fashionable?

Gobbledigook · 06/11/2004 20:36

Secondhandrose - are you in Nantwich or you'd like to live there?

CountessDracula · 06/11/2004 20:38

you can be smug when your shower finally have some silverware worth bragging about jmg

So come on, where would you consider moving, and what is important to you? Are you the type who would hate being in the middle of nowhere or do you need to be within striking distance of good coffee shops, bars etc?

moomina · 06/11/2004 20:39

JJ - how are you enjoying Victoria Park, btw?

misdee · 06/11/2004 20:49

can i stay here (WGC) and then buy a 2nd home in the lake district, tho dh wouldnt be able to enjoy that one, tho likes the area, so maybe a coastal town not too over run with tourists.

jmg1 · 06/11/2004 20:53

Well CD, I have to be smug when I get the opportunity cause you could be on top again next week!.
I loved living in Chelsea and it feels like home but we decided to move for the kids so we picked a place with great schools, countryside, plenty of shops, restaurants + easy to get into London but not long after we moved Dp died and I am finding it very hard to meet people. I have lived in Wales, the South, the North, the Midlands + London. Late DP was Scottish. I seem to click better with people from the North/ Scotland/Ireland. Am thinking of near Manchester, Liverpool, Newcastle or Scotland but have turned into a southern softie when it comes to the colder climate up North.
Good schools is important, and friendly people. If good bars, restaurants, shops + nice countryside are nearby that is a bonus.
So in other words I don't know!
