Anyone else's teenager applied for a provisional driving licence weeks & weeks ago and still waiting?

Online application on 28 April. DVLA took our money and said a paper form would be sent out to validate identity. Received this and returned this and nothing since. It's been 8 weeks and counting. You can't speak to them on the phone, Live chat is not live, it's a bot giving a standard response, and emails just receive another standard response. Arghhh!

Anyone else in this position?

We are about to apply for my sons provisional as was warned by friends that it’s taking up to 8 weeks currently.

MrsJVJ · 24/06/2021 19:02

Different situation but I applied for my new license after getting married around a similar time and I've heard absolutely nothing. Despite sending my existing license and all the forms straight away🙄

OrangeBlossom28 · 24/06/2021 19:04

Yes, applied on 4th April and had a form to verify identify but because her passport was being renewed we had another form to complete with new passport number on. That was sent by recorder delivery nearly three weeks ago. Nothing yet and the online progress checker is showing as they're waiting for paperwork.
They sent the new form to complete six weeks after we applied so it is taking a while now.

bertdynamite · 24/06/2021 19:05

Yes! In the same position. There has been industrial action too at the DVLA which has held everything up even more. I'm gearing myself up to trying to get through on the phone again tomorrow.

MargaretThatcherMilkSnatcher · 24/06/2021 19:05

Same here OP. I believe there has been strike action at the DVLA ... however, I have been investigating driving lessons for DS and everyone locally is booked solid so it's not like he could have driving lessons even if the blasted license did actually arrive! Gah.

autumnboys · 24/06/2021 19:07

My oldest just passed his theory test and we cannot book a practical for love not money. Whole thing is bloody frustrating.

LimitIsUp · 24/06/2021 19:09

Its infuriating!

It kind of helps that we are not the only ones. Needs to be sorted out though

As an update, his driving instructor has been able to book a test for him in September, which is probably about right for where son is currently at. He had some app which notifies of new and cancelled appointments.

Any news from anyone awaiting a provisional licence? We're still waiting and it will be 9 weeks (and counting) tomorrow

OP posts:
bertdynamite · 30/06/2021 21:37

Still no news for us. Online it says awaiting return of the form , and when I ring the message either says there is a high volume of calls or that there is industrial action. Our passports came back in a week - can't believe this is so slow.

Findahouse21 · 30/06/2021 21:40

Mine took 8 weeks to update my address.

LimitIsUp · 01/07/2021 17:55

It's boiling my piss. Needs sorting! I even got my MP to contact them but they are ignoring her too

When my dd passed her test a couple of weeks ago her full licence arrived 4 days after her successful test. Hard to square with the delays ds is experiencing with the issuing of his provisional licence

A pp has already mentioned this service but my post today may be of help, once the provisional arrives and lessons start

Same here. Dd applied online weeks ago. Verification of identity was needed so sent necessary documents off. Nothing since......

Inastatus · 01/07/2021 18:22

Oh no, I didn’t realise there was a problem. DH applied for DD’s online a few days ago. We’ve had a letter back saying they can’t use the passport photo and have to provide a photo signed on the back etc. I guess is better get this done asap if it’s taking so long!

Inastatus · 01/07/2021 18:23

I’d not is

Sambamboy · 02/07/2021 09:53

Hi
I sent my daughters provisional off 6 weeks ago and the same, cannot get through on telephone or webchat which is pants. Dreadful service.

Chocoqueen · 02/07/2021 10:05

DH and I updated our address using the online form, at the same time, a few months ago. His came back within a few days. Mine took ages and was only processed a month later when I eventually got through on the phone.

A bit sneaky but I eventually told the phone menu that I was a key worker (technically I think I am, but I work from home/don't really see myself as one, so it wasn't a complete lie) and that's what got me put through to a person. Apparently there had been a glitch in the system or something.

bertdynamite · 15/07/2021 06:19

I'm just updating - my daughter's provisional license arrived this week, after originally applying in the middle of March. A huge relief that I can stop trying to get through to the DVLA now.

OrangeBlossom28 · 15/07/2021 11:50

That is good news! Hopefully DD's isn't far behind after applying April 5th.

BigWoollyJumpers · 15/07/2021 12:01

It was the same last years. Took 8 weeks from April to July to get DD's provisional. Again, they needed identity verification, which is unusual. As everything else, including her passport, was done in days via on-line. So last year it was "cos Covid", and this year it is strikes "cos Covid". I wonder whether our government departments will ever get back to normal, which actually wasn't even great before! We have just gone through Probate and HMRC for DM's estate, that was even worse. And selling her house, even worse than worse, no-one seems to be able to get anything done anymore.

LimitIsUp · 16/07/2021 21:59

Just got ds provisional licence back after applying in April - 11 weeks

Sambamboy · 20/07/2021 19:46

Today I received her proofs back after over 9 weeks and saying licence will be issued shortly!
