ours seem to have died down. Last ones were 15 mins ago and they very courteously knocked on door and didn't ring bell. Dh dealt with them as I was putting boys to bed (ok, boys were already in bed and I was mumsnetting!)

hmb · 31/10/2004 20:32

Well we have now had some teen agers. They were all very polite, said please and thank you and were happy to have a sweetie! Once we were out of sweets we put out the pumpkin and no-one has bothered us since.

CountessDracula · 31/10/2004 20:42

speaking of which did anyone see the article on this in friday's Guardian, quoting mumsnet?

CountessDracula · 31/10/2004 20:42

here it is!

Wallace · 31/10/2004 20:52

I am horrified at some of these stories...it honestly makes you woonder what is happening to civilised society when you get kids acting like this and terrifying people on what is supposed to be a fun day

welshmum · 31/10/2004 20:57

Dh and I decided that for the first time we would have some treats ready as we've got to know a few of the children round about.....and nobody called miniature hero anyone????

WigWamBam · 31/10/2004 21:05

Lavender, I'm amazed that you think it's funny and "only a bit of fun". I can't see Misdee thinking scrubbing egg off her windows is funny, and neither do I.

hercules · 31/10/2004 21:07

I'd report that to the police. It's not my idea of fun at all.

misdee · 31/10/2004 21:14

its not funny at all lavender. trick or treat is meant to be a bit of fun, yes. but i live in a area largely populated by OAP's and disabled people. i am 5months pregnant and dont fancy climbling the step ladder in the dark to scrub egg off my windows. dh cant exactly do it can he?

the tricks people used to play (next door neighbour kids when younger tried to make my mum sneeze by making her sniff a pepper pot lol) were good. but egging someones house is stupid.

3 came to my door on Thursday (28th??) When I asked them why they said, 'oh, we're off to Barbados on Sunday'

Bloody Cheek!!!

I gave them all fairycakes that I have now discovered have been nibbled by a mouse!!

misdee · 31/10/2004 21:20

so the trick was on your part GB?

Hulababy · 31/10/2004 21:24

Having your windows/property egged isn't funny to me either; just vandalism Pity there isn't some way the police can round them all up and get them to scrub it all off. Yuk!

So sorry to all of you who have been "got".

We are lucky as, in he apartment, we don't have to put up with the nastier side to this. We just had a lovel stroll round city centre's Fright Night earlier - funfair and stalls, stage and music, face painting, children dressed up - all lovely No threatning of so called tricks at all.

janeybops · 31/10/2004 21:44

Well all went quiet after my last posting - they seem to have disappeared. Not sure if the police have been around but heard a few police cars.

Althought the promised visit from an officer hasn't materialised...

Now DH reckons they will be back later to do something to my car because I called the police on them!

Paranoia setting in???

This is definitely not FUN

Furball · 31/10/2004 21:46

We only had 2 lots this year, I'd bought a bag of cheapie lucky bag type sweets just in case. 1st lot were 3 x cute kids out with their dad. About an hour later about 7 x scream masks type. Dh just said he was sorry that all we had left were 3 x small packets of fizzers (he wanted to scoff the rest of the bag himself) They said thanks, then stayed on the doorstep knocked my milk bottles over and sprayed silly string over our path and pavement. Yeah thanks boys.

MissHoolie · 31/10/2004 21:50

Have just answered the door to two teenagers with their tracksuit tops pulled up over their faces. When I told them I ahd nothing left (truth) they should such abuse at me. I am fearing for my car now as they are hovering about outside now.

janeybops · 31/10/2004 21:52

Could you take a photo of them?

MissHoolie · 31/10/2004 21:53

They have gone now.

janeybops · 31/10/2004 21:54

I would phone the police anyway.

linnet · 31/10/2004 22:10

We had a group of two gusiers with adults in the background. then antoher three with adults in the background. then a little boy with his mum standing at the gate. Oh and dd1, dh took her to some of the neighbours houses and she came guising at our house as well. Not as many as last year so I now have loads of sweets to eat as we didn't give them all out.

I feel so sorry for all of you who get your houses egged, I've never heard of that happening here. It's always a fun night here, although it was quiet this year.

BadHair · 31/10/2004 22:43

Last year we had just 2 lots of T or T-ers, the children from next door and then their friends 10 mins later. So I got a few packets of sweets in for them this year and sat back feeling smug that I'd remembered.
The door bell rang at 6pm and didn't stop till well after 9. We stopped answering it after the 4th go as we had nothing left to give them, though the ones we saw all seemed nice enough and had parents in tow. Turned out that the kids next door decided not to do it this year after all.
One year we had eggs thrown at the windows but a man from up the street ran out and clobbered one of the eggers, then ran off himself so they didn't know where he'd come from. It was so funny watching it that clearing the mess of the windows was almost worthwhile.
Wouldn't chase them personally though as I'm far too much of a wimp.

how sad this is. i love to celebrate things and happily carved out our pumpkins tonight for the kids...(well ds mainly as dd is too young to understand) and i would also happily hand out sweets to the trick or treaters. but no, i wont answer the door now because they dont want sweets and i cant afford to give them all money. ds was upset tonight when he asked if he could go trick or treating and i said no. he couldnt understand why people hated it so much. its such a shame i couldnt take him and was tempted to just try a few neighbours (didnt though)...ds would be thrilled to get sweets. why do the horrible ones have to spoil it all for the little kids that would really enjoy it? it wasnt like this when i was young!

janeybops · 01/11/2004 07:42

Well last night abut midnight saw a police van outside our house and then slowly drove up the road, so they did do something after my call to them!

Shame it was 3 hours later than I needed!

Stripymouse · 01/11/2004 07:48

We survuved better than predicted. As you may know from previous thread how much I hate halloween begging and blackmailing and refuse to let mine do it as I believe it gives a negative message to them, I did hand out sweets (grudgingly) to avoid trouble. DD did say something on the lines of "if I am not allowed to do it because it is a bad thing to do mummy, why did you give those children sweets?" - which upset me a little because she is right., I gave them because I didn?t want our home attacked but explain the twisted logic and prcaticality over morality to a 3 and a half year old... Oh well.
Only three scary teenagers in scream masks and jeans with blood pouring from the eye sockets - luckily DDs didn?t see them as they were happily playing elsewhere.
Thank God it is all over.

misdee · 01/11/2004 07:58

glad its over now. part of me thinks maybe next year i should get sweets in to stop our place being attacked. but why should i? think its time something was done. bet i'm gonna see lots of places that have been egged today when we go out.

dd1 asked if they'll throw eggs at our place again tonight.
