And how long have you lived there? How often do you get itchy feet and feel like moving on?

ProfYaffle that sounds lovely! And Bobsmum

Every time we have moved so far I have said never again, then I find myself thinking about moving again within a couple of years...

i love the toen, but i hate the area i live in.

someone has scratched the bonnet of my car up again

i hate the petty vandalism, the stones being thrown at the house, the fence being broken repeatadly, the people who think we are easy targets as we live in an adapted bungalow.

Dottydot · 06/11/2007 22:07

3 years and hopefully will be moving in a couple of months' time to a house that's about 300 yards away but is our dream house (kind of). Can't wait!

FrannyandZooey · 06/11/2007 22:09

I love it here

I have lived in this town for 18 years (god that is a shocker) and I don't think we will move now we have children, as it is such a great place for young ones

we occasionally talk about going to a different country (Sweden, mostly), when we get fed up of crappy backward thinking in this country but I can't see it realistically

if you mean this house, I love it here too. I hope we don't have to move - I was talking to you about this wasn't I Tatties?

notnowbernard · 06/11/2007 22:10

I love where I live.

Would like a bigger home, but love the town, the general area and its surroundings.

Have lived here about 5 years, can't see myself moving in the near future.

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 06/11/2007 22:10

i've lvied in this part of town for 3years now. thats the longest since i left home at 18.

i like my home, just hate the area its in.

Dottydot · 06/11/2007 22:11

I still miss London though. Was there for 15 years and although we definitely did the right thing for lots of reasons in moving up North, a bit of me still has pangs for London (probably more for my old life as well..!).

PeachesMcLean · 06/11/2007 22:12

I've had itchy feet for the last 6 years and have finaly moved to a wonderful new house. We've got trees outside

Lady V, that sounds awful. What are the chances of moving now Peter's had his op?

LadyVictoriaOfCake · 06/11/2007 22:13

quite high peaches, we live in the only 3bedroom council owned bungalow.

so could exchange easily.

but want to stay near here due to schools etc.

Hulababy · 06/11/2007 22:15

I love living in the city I live in, and I really like where I live now. The house is fab. Lived her for 2.5 years now. However we won't stay her for long term - I want to be a bit closer to the city centre, just have to find the right house in the right location - not moving unless I can get all I want in the location I want. Like it too much here to move for anything less.

pirategirl · 06/11/2007 22:15

I live in a beautiful part of devon. Moved back here as a couple 6 yrs back. Yet now I am on my own with dd, I dont seem to appreciate the surroundings so much.
The idea was to share the quiet, the slowpace of life.

I often wonder what it is that will realy make a difference for me here. Am I just lonely, or do I need to be on my own somewhere with more opportunity workwise, and socially wise?

I was brought up here and moved away in my early 20's so its 'home' yet I have been having itchy feet again.

I have a housing association placenow, so thats fantastic and me and dd finally have a permanent home. Yet having lived in London form age 21-31, i crave 'stuff' thats not ever gonna be here.

Heathcliffscathy · 06/11/2007 22:15

yes because it is a beautiful house and a great area.

no because we have a mahoosive mortgage and sometimes ache for wide open skies.

Evenhope · 06/11/2007 22:16

Been in this house for 10 years and just started to get itchy feet.

Been in this town 24 years and still hate it

imaginaryfriend · 06/11/2007 22:19

I hate where we live. We're in SE London, fairly inner city, in a 2-bed flat with no garden.

I long to be out of London so we could afford a house and to be away from the endless pollution and street crime around us all the time.

edam · 06/11/2007 22:19

Oh, IKWYM Dotty, took me about six months of mourning to get over leaving London. (And we didn't even go far, merely out to the commuter belt.)

I really like my (small) town. Scarily pleasant. Lots of green space, very friendly/helpful people, walking distance to school/station/shops.

However, this is such a wealthy area that since I gave up having a Proper Job and went self-employed I do feel like the poor relation. When I lived in inner London, there was wealth/poverty and ever stage in between in the same street. Here, it sometimes feels as if anyone whose husband doesn't work in the City is not really achieving much.

tortoise · 06/11/2007 22:19

Love the area/location but house is too small for us all. 2 DC in each room and i have the tiny room. DS's are finding they have no room to get toys out to play.
HA house so only chance of moving is exchange.

imaginaryfriend · 06/11/2007 22:21

Oh yes, we've only been in the flat since January 07 but in this area for 11 years now. 11 long years ...

brimfull · 06/11/2007 22:23

have lived in this house for 16yrs ,house is fine, could do with a bigger plot but hey ho,you can't have everything.
Love the area as well but hate the fact that it's so bloody £££

pirategirl · 06/11/2007 22:24

dotty, edam.

this is my prob too, i couldnt wait to get out of London, but sometimes hanker after it, maybe cos me and ex dh started out there?

We bought a flat there in se london, in 97. it was al very exciting. Yet I must be realistic, and force my slef to remember why we left. Fed up of the buzz by then.

Ye wher ei live now is dead as a bloody doornail, and now dd is at school, i feel like an emerging butterfly with nowhere to go!!!

I havent been back to London, I feel that I couldnt, or it would be hard since my dh left. Yet my firendhas just moved up there, not that far from where i used to live so I am going to have to do it at some point.

Isn't it funny how a different town/time seemed like a differen life sometimes???

pirategirl · 06/11/2007 22:26

imaginary friend where abouts in se london do you live? Might be near where i was/hanker for!!

imaginaryfriend · 06/11/2007 22:45

pg I'm very close to Tower Bridge by the Thames. Where were you?

puppydavies · 06/11/2007 22:46

i love my home. is just a 2-up 2-down terrace but it's ours. we put so much time and love into it, we've done it up bit by bit over nearly 7 years. is nowhere near finished and is looking well scruffy from the front, so we're planning to throw some more money at it next year.

we're in a city that's big enough to have most of what you need (culture/shopping etc) but small enough to be friendly. we're just out of the centre so can walk to everything we need, reasonable public transport too. have friends, family, work and school in surrounding streets. know my neighbours. diverse area so sending kids to local school is next best thing to travelling. we have restaurants, shops, an arts centre, parks, doctor, dentist, sports facilities, community centres all within a 5 minute walk. we might even have a farmers market at the end of our street come new year.

would like a bit more space in the house or a bigger garden but really don't want to move out of our area (particularly while i'm at home with small kids) and can't afford a bigger place around here on a single income. i figure we trade off the private space for the public space - we spend more of our time out of the house.

i moved a lot as a kid, first from house to house in the same town, then a big move from a large town to small town. i feel blessed that i've found somewhere to put down roots and i'd be happy to stay around here for the forseeable future.

pirategirl · 06/11/2007 23:05

I was in Brockley se4, ( sniff).

Dottydot · 07/11/2007 06:30

Yes - I have to go down to London with work every few weeks and even after 3 years still get a lump in my throat as the train into London goes past the hospital where ds1 was born and virtually past our house . We only rented but it was so lovely and a proper home to us.

But where we are now has all our family, old friends and fingers crossed if our house sale/buying goes through it'll be a new start for us in a house we'll be able to grow up and old in!

LoveAngel · 07/11/2007 07:28

We moved here last month and I love it. It's a bit of a shock not being so close to central London (all these long, leafy roads are a bit of a novelty!), but I'm loving my new house and my new area, and can't see us moving from here.
