ye syes you did?
I mean why woudl you weant ot take your kids clothes ( for you)shopping on a wet saturday?

bay · 23/10/2004 17:16

of course we're friends!!
Thought it may not be serious which is why I oppened with a question.
as a point, some kids like shopping. where as Some get bored easily. Shopping centres can be boring even for adults. My oldest kid loves going to shopping centres, actually requests a visit on occassions. She loves the bigness of it all, loves all the different shops and the points of interests, like fountains, water falls, pictures etc. Also loves the fact that there are so many places to sit and eat.

JoolsToo · 23/10/2004 17:20

what I want to know is why pensioners shop at weekends when they've got all fuc*ing week in which to shop!

marthamoo · 23/10/2004 17:21

Yes, perhaps if I had dd's it would be different - would be kind of nice to have a child who enjoyed shopping instead of going "awwww...Mum do we HAVE to?"!

fairydust · 23/10/2004 17:26

what a surprise cods moaning again

nikkim · 23/10/2004 17:33

we sometimes go shopping on a Saturady while dp is at work as my dd loves shopping and it is time we can have on our own if that makes sense ( actually that sounds daft as we are in shops full of other people!!) My dd (3)loves shopping and I don't do it with her becasue we have nothing else to do or I can't be bothered to do anything else. She loves to dress hersrlf up, and get the bus into town with her mum. She adores wandering the shops looking at things, going to a cafe for a cake and a drink, chatting to people and just soaking up life!

fruitful · 23/10/2004 17:35

We do it because dd is her mother's daughter and likes shopping... OK, actually she likes shopping centres. We go shopping on Saturdays sometimes. Dh and dd ride endlessly up and down on the escalators, investigate all the toys in ELC and Mothercare, run up and down the corridors of the shopping centre, and go to every shop that has a car-ride thingy (dd doesn't know that you can put money in them). Its warm, dry, free, and dd loves it. Meanwhile, I get to shop without a bored toddler in tow.

JoolsToo · 23/10/2004 17:36

I can understand why kids get taken shopping on Saturday - what I can't understand is why they get taken to the 'Next' sale! - have you ever been to one? they take them in pushchairs too! unbelievable

captainCOD · 23/10/2004 17:37

fairy I am not hte only one!

captainCOD · 23/10/2004 17:39

a little harsh I htink!

nikkim · 23/10/2004 17:41

have to admit I do not understand why people do things like the next sale or even supermarkets on a saturday - unless you have to. But next sale!! Why would you queue for hours get very stressed just to buy some very dull clothes???

The worst place on a saturday with a toddler is IKEA. Done it once and never again.

captainCOD · 23/10/2004 17:41

I always avoid supermarket s att he w/e or one of us goes ona mad dash wiht no kids

posyhairdresser · 23/10/2004 17:45

Because Saturday Shopping is the new Sunday Church

dinosaur · 23/10/2004 17:45

We took the DSs to Hamleys last Saturday and to John Lewis the previous Saturday and both times they all behaved very well and we really enjoyed ourselves. The reason for going on a Saturday is that DS1 is at school now so weekdays are a no-no.

Mind you, I had not quite realised how many looks and stares you get as a family with three children, rather than two or one!

We were sitting in the Coffee Shop in John Lewis and some nosey old bag said to me "So where's your girl then?" I was a little taken aback...

fairydust · 23/10/2004 17:46

if you don't like it don't go.

some people have no choice wether to go at weekend i go at weekend as i can't always handel dd on my own in the shops and dh works 9 - 5 monday to friday..

Skate · 23/10/2004 17:47

I don't take mine - NO WAY! What a nightmare! If I do take them to a shopping centre it would be during the week but I wouldn't ever put myself or them through it on a Sat or Sun.

TBH, I buy most of their stuff in Tesco while I'm doing normal food shopping or on-line so I just order a job lot in different sizes, try it all on at home and send back what I don't need.

I understand there are all sorts of reasons that people do take them on a Saturday or Sunday but I've definitely seen whole families out with kids looking (or sounding!!!) clearly unhappy and miserable and I just think 'why?' - if it's that tortuous for them and you do have a partner to look after them (which they clearly do because they are there!) then why doesn't one stay at home with them while the other shops?

If I need to buy kids shoes or something, I go, get the shoes, come home! I wouldn't dream of idling round the shops with them in a buggy - how bloody boring for them.

captainCOD · 23/10/2004 17:48

dino nO!
i am repating I dont htink its bad going shopping, but I woulldnt shoose to go CLOTHES SHOPPING
i agree about gong fro lunch or looking at toy shops or whatever but its when mother sa ftahers dont know hwen yto clal it a day and the kids are tired and tantrumming

captainCOD · 23/10/2004 17:48

Skate · 23/10/2004 17:49

Exactly!!!!

Do you know what - I don't even go to Tesco on Sat or Sun if I can help it, not with kids anyway. I'd rather go at night when they've gone to bed!!

captainCOD · 23/10/2004 17:49

captainCOD · 23/10/2004 17:50

GeorginaA · 23/10/2004 17:54
