We are still happily married, but the kids and I live in the USA and DH is a full time student in London. He has been renting a flat since we sold our house and moved back to the USA, but now would like to move to a home. He is 46, great with children (particularly crying babies) and very handy (was a builder before becoming a student). He can cook and clean and if you ask him nicely would probably be happy to look after the kids if you want a night out. He spends all his time studying or sleeping and is in the USA with us for all the holidays. He won?t be having overnight visitors or mates over and apart from his god awful snoring, is quiet at night.

His only requirements are wireless broadband, a non-smoking, non-partying household, parking (on-street is fine) for his car and preferably his own bathroom.

He is just completing his HND in business at West London College and in February will hopefully be entering the 3rd year of a Business Honors program at Middlesex University in Hendon.

That thread did inspire me to post on Mumsnet for a room for dh. Even if I am a little biased about him, the real dh couldn't possibly be worse than that awful guy.

When is he looking from. Feb when he goes to Hendon.

I wish I had a spare bathrom! About 20mins max depending on time of day ( can do Brent cross in 18!)

My DH also lives away Monday to Friday, but has rented a lovely flat that we are abpout to buy as we think he is going to be away for at least another year ( hopefully from the ££ piont of view as it is good ££!!)

SofiaAmes · 16/10/2007 18:24

Hi Alibubbles, ideally he's looking from February, but could conceivably move earlier if it could be done without too much fuss (he's easily distractible and I want him to concentrate on his studies). He needs contractually to give 1 month notice on his flat, but courtesy wise, we'd like to give the landlord 2 months notice.
Where does your dh go during the week?
Do you just have one bathroom in the house?
I bet you'd get along really well with my dh!
Takes him more than 20 mins to get to college right now and he's only a few miles away!

SofiaAmes, we are what is known as LATS - living apart togethers!

DH is in Birmingham, I am in St Albans ( DD gets the train every morning, stops at Hendon) or drives.

I just realised that your DH would need week in week out, the only problem I have is that weekends are precious, so would not want anyone else around, even DD disappears!

If your DH needs short term, or occasional, I could help, but realistically Monday to Friday is all that I could offer.

Sorry about that.

Anyone else....dh really is lovely. I get almost daily requests from friends and relatives to borrow him.

SofiaAmes..We;re looking for a lodger, I'm the person with the awful lodger on the thread I think you were referring to....

We are a family of 5, me, Dh, 3 DCs aged 8,4 and 2. We have internet connections in all rooms I think, we do not smoke, or party, we have on street parking without need for permit, but we only have one bathroom - though 2 loos! We have a lovely big garden, friendly neighbours, we have a cleaner who comes once a week so the house is not a complete mess, and we are lovely and love your DH already just from your post!

We have good transport links - train at the bottom of the street takes 12 mins to get to the City, 10 min bus ride to tube etc etc.

Let me know if you're still looking and I can tell you more!

PSCMUM · 21/10/2007 20:01

forgot to say - we're in North east london - probably take him about an hour tops to get to hendon from here.

foxensteinscreature · 22/10/2007 14:24

Sofia - we are looking for a new lodger as our current (very lovely) lodger is moving out soon.

We are in Kew in West London, a few minutes drive from north circular and loads of major roads incl. M3, M4, South Circ, A40 etc and within a few minutes of District Line, Silverlink and Waterloo overground

North circ to Hendon would probably be 40 minutes drive

We have a nice big double bedroom at the top of the house with its own bathroon - very tranquil and overooks leafy back gardens. No parking restrictions, we have broadand (landline but current lodger using wireless upstairs), no smoking family, 3 children (2 at school and one LO).

We're pretty friendly and laid back

foxensteinscreature · 22/10/2007 14:25

Sorry - I meant a few minutes walk to stations (not drive) - 7 minutes to Kew Gardens Station

SofiaAmes · 22/10/2007 15:04

thanks....dh is here in the usa with me at the moment and today has gone to find gold in the mountains (current hobby...men! } I'll run it by him when he gets back and get more details from you guys....

OP posts:
foxensteinscreature · 22/10/2007 15:19

Hope he finds some gold!!!

mustrunmore · 22/10/2007 15:25

Ah, we'd have loved him except we only have one bathroom, no wireless broadband, a very small 3rd room, and a lodger thats not sure what he's doing yet as he's redundant as of last week, but he doesnt actually pay rent anyway
If he's still looking in January, get in touch with me and I should know whats going on in my own house by then!

SofiaAmes · 28/10/2007 14:28

foxensteinscreature....sorry for the delay in getting back to you (my hard drive died on Monday)....your place sounds lovely.
Would it be ok for me to CAT you and at least dh might be able to come by and see your place and meet you?

SofiaAmes · 10/11/2007 17:05

Have consulted with dh and decided that it would be best if he was near his Uni (Hendon).....aren't there any mumsnetters who need/want to rent out a room to my lovely dh?

OP posts:
SofiaAmes · 09/01/2008 15:09

Ok I'm going to try posting this again. Dh did find a place, but it turned out to be a disaster and he now needs something ASAP. Near to Hendon would be great.

DH just handed it to me::

Lovely large sunny attic room in family house with own toilet/shower room, overlooking leafy back gardens. FF incl. fridge, microwave, grill, drying rack, kettle, TV/DVD, phone point.

Quiet residential street, 8 minutes walk to Kew Gardens (Z3 District Line/Silverlink) or North Sheen (to Waterloo). Close to M4, M3, M25, North Circular and South Circular.

Under 10 minutes walk to Kew Village, River, Kew Gardens, major shops: Next, Gap, M&S, Boots, Tesco, Sainsbury.

Unrestricted parking.

If he is interested, give him my number. I am seeing people this week, so will be aiming to make a decision/get someone by Saturday evening.

fitfox · 09/01/2008 17:04

ps. weekly cleaner included as well!!

SofiaAmes · 09/01/2008 17:46

Oh I'm so glad you posted. I tried to CAT you yesterday, but I didn't realize you had changed your name and so after repaying my £5 because my CAT priveleges has expired and composing a nice long message, I got the whole thing returned to me!

I have given dh your number, so hopefully he'll be calling you this evening. His name is Steve.
