my ds's love it - older one goes to liturgy and so thinks its like going to toddler group, and best of all I love it, as dh takes them and I get to have a lie in, and an hour or so to myself!

I went for the firs time in years two weeks ago with dd 8months. Didnt want to be the family that only turns up for the nativity. DD loved the choir and was so good. I think the petit filous at half time helped!

I go some Sunday mornings also, its a childrens service so its packed full of babies, toddlers and children. I actually really enjoy it !

The story this morning was about a hungry little boy who was saving to buy a football. He needed another £1. An old lady was walking down the street and dropped something. The little boy discovered it was a £1. At this point the priest asked the kids what he should do. A riot nearly broke out as they shouted 'buy crisps','buy sweets', 'buy his football' etc. It was very funny until the priest reminded them they were at church and then they all shouted 'give it back' -aaaahhhhh very sweet - they are only maximum of 3 years old

Really weird you should start a thread on this, coddy. The church I had marriage blessed in is at the end of our road and this morning when I was on my way to buy papers I walked past and thought 'Maybe I'd feel better if I went there every Sunday'. And then - I thought about starting a thread to see what you all thought!

I think I'd like to go on my own though. Maybe I will next Sun...

I was helping in Sunday school today and DS2 (4) was in my group for his 2nd time but was soooooooooo naughty luckily the lady who took the group had her grandchildren there and her grandson was v naughty too so I didn't feel too bad. I wasn't going to take him again but she said I should and he'll calm down.

Glad you enjoyed it though coddy

I have been thinking about going to mine for a few weeks now but keep chickening out when Sunday morning comes as it is very small and impossible to go there without being noticed. I really just want to go once anyway without being spoken to, just to ease myself back into it. Reading your posts today has given me a bit of a new resolve for next week. Anyway, must do it before Christmas!

I'm going out for a chinese with a group of girls from our church - they are a really friendly bunch. My Dd's are both very involved - infact thy are going to a "Ready Steady Cook" night at the youth group this evening.

Lonelymum · 17/10/2004 15:26

It would be interesting to know how many people go to church for the social side or to get a quiet hour without the kids rahter than the religious side. There wouls seem to be quite a few takers here for starters.

I go because i ama Christian but I wouldn't go to a church which wasn't friendly and welcoming.

Lonelymum · 17/10/2004 15:33

Would you go to one even though you didn't think much of the priest? Our church hasn't got the most inspiring priest and I know that isn't supposed to make the difference, but it does to me.

I only ever go on my own Essbee, or with one child at a time.

"My Dd's are both very involved - infact thy are going to a "Ready Steady Cook" night at the youth group this evening."

Our Pathfinders group (11-14) did this last week, and I got to be the parent helper. It was great fun though, but I didn't have the courage to sample what they had cooked.

We go to church every Sunday (twice, LOL, as DH and I run the Explorers group, 7 - 11 year olds). All my friends and my entire social life is through our church. I couldn't imagine not being part of it.

nutcracker · 17/10/2004 16:06

Ah nice of you to think of me Coddy, but i had to laugh as I just don't do church, never have done.

Don't have anything against it at all i just have no interest what so ever and always feel like i shouldn't be there when ever i do go in one. Even when the vicar speaks to me at the hall where dd1's ballet is held, I feel hypocritical and stupid.

Thanks for thinking of me though coddy
