How do you all spend sundays?

Am I the only one who hates Sundays. If we stay in I feel its a constant round of housework and housework for me. While the Kids watch too much tv.
I have decided that we will now try to all spend Sunday together as a family. A long walk in the cold winter air followed by tea out in a restaurant..Nothing fancy, Pizza hut or similar.

How do all your Sunday routines go?

weekends are always boring for me. my mum comes around but i feel like i cant do anything other than just chat to her. sundays, she usually brings me part of her sunday roast dinner which saves me cooking and its always so much quieter on here too. Trying to do a family thing sounds like a good idea

JoolsToo · 14/10/2004 16:57

We're either up in the Lake District or -

maybe a bit of passion
Watch Breakfast with Frost whilst eating breakfast!
MN
Get ready - wear me slop on Sunday
MN
May do a bit of shopping - its quieter
MN
Wash my car if I can stir myself into action
MN
Visit family
MN
Generally chill
MN
bed
Apart from the prospect of work on Monday I quite like Sunday

moomina · 14/10/2004 16:59

No, I hate them too. Most miserable day of the week. Never do anything, never go anywhere. Ds goes to his dad's on Sunday afternoons for just long enough for me to miss him and the house to be too quiet - but not for long enough for me to get out and spend any time doing things I want to do!

zubb · 14/10/2004 17:01

we go for a walk or go swimming or visit people

codswallop · 14/10/2004 17:01

Love them
swimming then lunch then big walk

Azzie · 14/10/2004 17:05

Sundays are good for me - they usually go something like this;

Get up early, go for a long run (I know I'm probably mad, but 6 a.m. on a Sunday is the only time I get to run down the middle of the road right through town!).

Home for nice breakfast (croissants and pains au chocolat).

DH and I take DS and DD to rugby practice (or I stay home and do arty stuff with DD if she doesn't want to go).

Afternoon - gardening, or family walk, or watch a film.

Dinner - roast chicken with all the trimmings sitting up to a properly-laid table (candles and all) as a family - DH and I have a bottle of wine, DS and DD have their apple juice in wine glasses.

Evening - ironing in front of the telly (there's usually good non-demanding 'ironing TV' on on a Sunday night!).

Mo2 · 14/10/2004 17:08

Azzie - that sounds idyllic - how old are your kids.... we aspire to that sort of Sunday, but it never seems to happen!

nutcracker · 14/10/2004 17:10

I also hate sundays not even sure why but i just do.

We usually end up moaning at each other.

Azzie · 14/10/2004 17:12

Mo - my kids are just 7 and nearly 5. They love the dinner in particular, and the special treat is to blow the candles out after we've finished.

Josw19 · 14/10/2004 17:12

Every day is like Sunday.....

codswallop · 14/10/2004 17:12

mibne exactly the same as azzie
incl rironing

louise1974 · 14/10/2004 17:15

It seems Sundays can be so different depending largely on the ages of the kids. Mine are 12 and 4 so both old enough now for me to hopefully start to enjoy Sundays.
I would love to spend the weekends away in the Lake district like Jools. My dream would be to own a little holiday cottage there.
Can't face cooking a big meal though. Although your sundays does sound lovely Azzie.

Louise, I must admit I've done that roast chicken Sunday meal so many times now I'm virtually doing it on autopilot!

WideWebWitch · 14/10/2004 19:23

Azzie, are you the same azzie that was here years ago and then disappeared? I wonder if you are from your childrens ages. Nice to see you back if so. On Sundays one of us lies in until 10am (whoever didn't lie in on Saturday) and the other has the children til then. Then we sometimes do a big roast or go for a walk or have people over for lunch or just potter about. I love Sundays, lounging and just being at home with my family. But hey, we don't do much housework so that helps!

JiminyCricket · 14/10/2004 19:32

Love them: Lie in, run, then get lunch ready while dh takes dd to church (he's christian i'm not) then we go for a walk or a bike-ride or something and find somewhere to have coffee and cake.

popsycal · 14/10/2004 19:32

WE have no routines for Sundays (or weekends) at all. It's spend as a family - me, DH and 2yo DD. We sometmes visit our parents, or friends. Maybe our friend may visit with DD's little friend. Sometimes we are away all weekend at friends/borither/sisters. Sometimes we just go for a walk and to the park, put for lunch or whatever.

Can't remember last time we ever just stayed in though - it'd drive me mad. I like Sundays

codswallop · 14/10/2004 19:41

H what happened to the house move?

Hulababy · 14/10/2004 19:43

Still waiting to sell Coddy Had some viewings but the whole house market seems stagnant round here at the moment. Loads of houses we like on the market, but same properties week in, week out. Ours one of them too

We take it in turns to have a lie in on the weekend and Sunday is my day so DH takes DH out (softplay or swimming and such like), then he usually cooks me a blinding roast dinner and we all have a snooze in the afternoon. We just potter about as a rule.

acer · 14/10/2004 22:32

I love Sundays, lazing around, playing playstation with my two ds....

Thomcat · 14/10/2004 22:47

Hmmm depends, they vary. I suppose a typical day might be a bit like this:
If I haven't had a big night I get up early and take Lottie to church.
If not it's a morning in bed with Lottie with the sunday papers that get delivered and a cup ot tea and whatever breakfast I bought, usually coissants.
Then a day of much the same, a bit of doing something I wanted to get done like clear out a cupboard or this time of year rake up leaves in the garden. Lottie loves watching this job from her swing.
A bit of playing, reading and a Disney DVD, trip to the park throughout day, that kind of thing.
Then we either cook a roast, or go out to friends or family for one. One or other decides they'll do it, open a bottle of wine and cruise on into the evening.
Bath and cuddle on bed with Lottie, read her a story.
Come down and eat dinner, stretch out on sofa with a DVD and more wine.
Nothing exciting but I LOVE Sunday's.
