Dog Names. What do you call yours?

Do you have a dog? ... and what's it called?

We're getting a puppy in about a months time; we went to choose it last weekend. It's a border terrier, but CAN we decide on a name??!

It's verging on WW III in our house because we cannot decide...

Am off to consult my "1000 Baby Names" book in desperation!

My great uncle had a dog called Imbus. Took a while for me as a small child to work out that it was actually short for "imbecile"!

I agree about having non-human names for pets - We had a great dane called Pluto and one called Helga (ok that's human but it's not v. English!). My parents went overboard with a wire haired fox terrier that we had - Curleigh (silly spelling!)
We also had a ginger cat called 'Robertson's Golden Shred' (Goldie for short). When my brother got a black cat he insisted on a simple name so it was 'Sooty'. My MIL has a jack russell called 'Potty' cos she is!
I find that my name is often a name for a pet and it really bothered me once when a child that I taught named his rotweiler in my honour!

BTW - Willow2, your 'spliff' story made me LOL

My brother once had a cat called casserole. His explanation was he was a very poor student at the time and if the time came when he needed to eat it, at least they wouldn't be eating Tiddles. Got many strange looks when he called it in at night.

Our dog is called Chicken. Confuses kids in the park but a conversation starter.

OK - not about dogs but about cats. When my brother was a toddler my dad rescued two kittens. When he brought them home my brother was having a tantrum. In an attempt to distract him my mum picked up the black kitten and said, "Ok what shall we call this kitten?".
My brother pushed my mum and the cat away and shouted, "Nothing!"
So Mum said, "Right, this one is called Nothing." She picked up the grey kitten and said, "What shall we call this one then?"
My brother stopped crying, looked at the cat and my mum and said, "Something!"
End of tantrum and our two cats were called Something and Nothing! Isn't that sweet?

A small Public Service Announcement.... New dog will be called....

KIPPER!

We have 2 names that end with a "y", so discarded Monty and Archie. Ds going on about Flying Kipper in Thomas book, and I suddenly remembered the Kipper books, too. Puppy won't look too dissimilar, so we settled on that!
