Hi,

Am a regular poster, but have namechanged for secrecy reasons (although I will probably come back on this thread later under my "real" name and out myself but hey ho!)

We have three children and are sort of ttc-ing for number four.

We need a new car as a fiesta isn't big enough for the five of us, never mind the six or seven that we might have in a couple of years.

MOT and tax are due on the fiesta and we are thinking of changing the car now.

So.... do we get a car that is big enough for the five of us because at the moment I am not pg, or do we get a people carrier that can carry 6 of us just in case we get a bfp in the next month or so?

Tis a dilemma
thanks

I have a Honda FRV which has three seats at front and three in back. We have three proper car seats across the back - not boosters IYSWIM. It is really excellent and we always have a boot that we can use. A cheaper, but you either love it or hate it, option is the Fiat Multipla. Same format with the seats.

We always have the middle front seat down as an arm rest then just pop it up if we need it. I think it looks quite car like as well. Winner all round!!!

Egg · 21/09/2007 13:10

But it is really very ugly though, the Multipla, isn't it? I know looks aren't everything but...

NDPIsProbablyGoingToHell · 21/09/2007 13:11

I like the bonkers Multipla but they have homogenised the looks with the most recent facelifted model. No more huge windows and frog eyes.

lilibet · 21/09/2007 13:11

No, no no

that's the old one that you are thinking of (even tho' I think it's wonderful)

They have streamlined it a bit and made it a bit more boring

I will find a picture

NDPIsProbablyGoingToHell · 21/09/2007 13:12

Everyone I know who has a Kia has had lots of problems with it.

3andnomore · 21/09/2007 13:12

OH and squonk...well, if teh secret regular poster decides on a MUltipla, she would indeed be able to take all sorts with her in the Boot....I have a ratehr large pushchair, that I had no probs putting into the Boot...like I said, the beauty is you never loose the boospace, as you have 3 seats in the front and 3 in teh back and all full sized seats

who cares about ugly
Actually the lok grows on you...we love our ugly bugly
And indeed, I prefered the old look to the new ones...the bump is really missing, lol...

NDPIsProbablyGoingToHell · 21/09/2007 13:15

I think I was spoiled with the reliability of my old car. tbh.

3andnomore · 21/09/2007 13:16

lilibet
must say...it says in that report that against it goes teh width....and I have to say, I don't think it is much wider then any other car....

NDPIsProbablyGoingToHell · 21/09/2007 13:17

The Ford SMax is meant to be excellent too.

NDPIsProbablyGoingToHell · 21/09/2007 13:18

I must book my car into the garage before winter comes and I get stranded

NDPIsProbablyGoingToHell · 21/09/2007 13:20

TBH, anyone who whinges about width is an idiot ! In order to get a car with a back 3 seats big enough to accommodate 3 car seats (or whatever) is going to have to be wider than your average hatchback. Where do these people think the designers/manufacturers 'find' the extra width from otherwise ?!

Egg · 21/09/2007 13:21

OK, so I could fit me, DH (who is very long), DS in huge isofix seat, DTs in stage 0 and then in 9 or so months stage 1 seats, plus an enormous double buggy, travel cots and luggage for hols in the Multipla?

I guess I could just wear a disguise.

Sorry, this thread was not even about me, it's about the secret regular poster .

NDPIsProbablyGoingToHell · 21/09/2007 13:21

there is stacks of leg room in the grand scenic...

double buggy in boot with all 7 seats up would be a prob though

fryalot · 21/09/2007 13:23

egg - I'm sure the secret regular poster is only too pleased to have your queries answered as well.

3andnomore · 21/09/2007 13:23

lol ndp...like I said, it is actually not really that wide anywya...because they put teh gearbox into the dashboard, and the break is on the right handside of teh drivers seat....because obviously where they usually would be is a seat, that you can have up or down (as you can with all of them)so, it's possibly only 1/1 seat wider then the average car...it's quite short, really....but teh "cockpit" is really spacious, and so is the boot,lol...

3andnomore · 21/09/2007 13:23

Fio...well.. I suppose one could argue that we are not normal, then

Egg · 21/09/2007 13:25

Ok, I have looked at the link, and I know it doesn't matter if it is ugly but really, come on, it is hideous. Even if I wanted one, DH would never never never agree. He doesn't even want to be seen driving a mumbus type thing.

God I have to get off MN. DS is refusing to sleep and I still have millions of things to do before my MIL arrives in TWO HOURS.

silverfrog · 21/09/2007 13:25

Another Honda FRV owner here... Love it, and as already mentioned, you never lose boot space as seats arranged in 2 rows of 3. We regularly fill the car (me + dh, sdd (18). sds (16), dd1 (3 and in a forward facing seat) and dd2 (7 months, still rear facing)).

Plus we mananged to get our rottweiler plus pram (umbrella fold chassis, separate carrycot) into the boot as well. Pretty good going really.
