My local Safeway has a sign on the petrol forecourt saying "smile, your on cctv". Thick gits.

anorak · 24/09/2004 18:53

SoupDragon · 24/09/2004 18:55

Not a grammatical error, but I was ranting on here yesterday about the Inland Revenue Tax Credits office and their letter which came from "Goverment Buildings".

PicadillyCircus · 24/09/2004 18:59

Coddy brought up the subject of Angus....... and then disappeared....

JoolsToo · 24/09/2004 19:07

Twiglett - well you should of!

Tinker · 24/09/2004 19:12

Was looking at "Goverment Buildings" for ages there jodee thinking 'What's wrong with that, there are lots of buildings and they belong to the GoverNment'

A company recently contacted my husband advertising "cd's to aid grammar revision". He contacted them to state that they would never be taken seriously by English departments if they didn't even proof their blurb and received the reply "we are sure you didn't get your PhD by worrying about apostrophes"! Guess what he will not be buying?

tamum · 24/09/2004 19:15

I've posted this on here before, but can't resist mentioning it again- a house further down our street was advertised as having "a supermarket literally on the doorstep" (I felt that would be a bit of a pain really)

Bunglie · 24/09/2004 19:20

What really gets at me at the moment is an advert on TV. I can not remember what it is for, I think a breakfast cereal. However it ends with a cute little boy saying
"Wot abou' fish, I 'ate fish"
When I was younger I was told off for not putting the endings on words and certainly dropping one's 'h's was a big no no.
However I must be honest and say my grammar is not good but my spelling is worse!

JoolsToo · 24/09/2004 19:23

speaking of which - it is 'AITCH' not haitch!

Bunglie · 24/09/2004 19:25

Oops I beg your pardon...
don't you just Hate it when people just say 'Pardon'?

Well! ks, I would have certainly learnt more in my English lit classes if the text had looked like that!

codswallop · 24/09/2004 20:11

I lolled

jodee · 24/09/2004 20:25

Tinker!

ks - next time, please keep your dangling modifier's to yourself!

Chinchilla · 24/09/2004 20:36

Every time I walk past a certain cafe, I want to remove the apostrophe from their sign advertising 'pannini's'.

Rowlers · 24/09/2004 20:42

Anyone just see Eastenders? Not so much a grammar gaffe but at the end they showed a helpline number and with it the following "If you have been affected by this storyline or need more info about Huntingdon's disease (blah blah blah)...".. Huntingdon's quite a nice little town - wasn't aware it was seriously ill.
