libb · 24/09/2004 12:20

That is worse than running your own teeth down a chalkboard.

SoupDragon · 24/09/2004 12:23

I had to read it several times, assuming I'd misread it somewhere.

Fio, you is a disgrace

In our local trampolining centre 'approprite' clothing and no 'jewellery' must be worn!!

SenoraPostrophe · 24/09/2004 13:23

I have a phrase dictionary which has a price sticker on the back that says "DICTIONARIE'S"

anorak · 24/09/2004 13:31

jewellery is the correct spelling, no?

codswallop · 24/09/2004 13:34

oooh tesco is very bad
theya also have " cd's" for sale

JoolsToo · 24/09/2004 13:39

anorak - yes it is!

Soupdragon - you may have opened a can of worms with this one - with me anyway!

I can't tell you the times I've typed letters where the author has put 'would of' instead of 'would have' and things like 'Tesco are' instead of 'Tesco is' even the BBC has been slipping lately - some of their spelling in sub-titles! where will it all end! dh is of the opinion that if the message gets across that's all that matters but it REALLY irritates me!
(I've know I've set myself up for a fall 'cos if I slip up here someones going to shout at me!)

TraceyP · 24/09/2004 13:42

I HATE the random (mis)use of apostrophes!! Our local grocer sells Potato's and Tomato's and I always want to smack him. Hard.

But "jewellery" is correct.

I thought jewellery was right too (unless you're American when I think it's jewelry).

Ahhh... there's nothing like a good old grammar/spelling debate to get MNers irate and ranting

"Drawing room, you look so lovely tonight".

"Oh, Hall, you say the sweetest things"....

I hate less being used instead of fewer.

Chelsea are the winning team...

The audience are clapping...

hatter · 24/09/2004 14:43

oooh Bovary, we once looked round a house that was originally a former post office

KateandtheGirls · 24/09/2004 14:53

It annoys me no end too. I saw a sign recently about a "Walk for Diabete's".

Who is Diabete, and what possesion of his are we walking for?

tamum · 24/09/2004 14:56

Oh hatters, I love that! What a way to start your career as a house.....

Kate

tamum · 24/09/2004 14:57

P.S. it was a happy day in the tamum household when M+S changed their "Five items or less" signs, I can tell you.
