Card Making Virgin Needs Advice

Calling Dingle, Champs, etc., I've looked at the pictures of your beautiful cards and I would like to have a go myself at making some myself.

Where do I start? Is there a basic kit I can get and where from? Is it pricey? (Would quite like to have a go at Christmas cards as this is looming!).

I'm getting a bit confused as what comment to put on what thread now!! You can tell we are all so enthusiastic can't you!
I do the girlie face by out a punching a circle of flesh coloured card,hand cut 2 ear shapes allowing excess for sticking,and a neck shape too. Chalk edges of "fleshy bits" for a bit of depth & stick ears to head.Stick collar on card,and neck piece on top.Use a smaller punch for eyes or wobbly eyes for a fun effect.Chalk blush for cheeks and draw in details. Hair is a bit time consuming but it does make use of my very large collection of wool!Make hair similar as a rag doll and stick on. When dry style with plaits, bunches..using 3d pads attach face to backing with neck & collar already in place.
Adaptations-baby, just a strand of hair, one little tooth, little boys-use a half circle slightly larger & make up a peak for a baseball cap.
I had to do one for a friend who was one of 9 siblings-fitting 9 faces on was rather tricky but I really enjoyed trying to make each one look like the real person using glasses, stubble, little red pouting lips...the possibilities are endless.

You'll laugh at this it took me ages to sign in as I kept putting nutters instead of netters.I just couldn't understand why it wouldn't let me get in.Then it clicked dur.

Thanks everyone. I was a bit nervous posting them, in case everyone thought they were crap!

Champs - That red basket was only one of about 4 or 5!!! I make them as the mood takes me, and then also make commissions when I get them. You can see why I need to do something about selling more can't you!

my word there are loads there , haveI come apon proffessionals !!! Id never sustain making that many !! I like doing them for oocasions but prefer painiting!!! WOW again

have any of you ever bought the card blanks from baker ross? are they really bad quality? cos they seem extremely cheap at under £4 for 50

beautiful cards btw

No amfs (is that your permanent new name BTW?), I have never bought anything from Baker Ross. I think some people have though, so maybe they'll tell you what they think of the card blanks.

Not sure yet .. quite like amfs ... sounds a bit like my old dog sneezing

I like it actually! Sounds sort of Dutch. Docrafts sell packs of 50 white or cream card blanks for £9.99 (in the Range), which are good quality, but not as cheap as BR.

Just as a comparison I buy my "ready made" card blanks from Craft Creations. If we are talking A6 single folded they work out £6.80 for 50 but envelopes not included. Two qualities of envelope cheapest at £2 per 50. The bonus is that you have quite a few colours to choose from and can mix & match with the card type IYSWIM.
Haven't ordered from BR recently-what's their postage like?

have brought card blanks from baker ross, they were brill. I made ds2 christening invitations with them. Try them, you can always send them back if you dont like them.
