Calling Dingle, Champs, etc., I've looked at the pictures of your beautiful cards and I would like to have a go myself at making some myself.

Where do I start? Is there a basic kit I can get and where from? Is it pricey? (Would quite like to have a go at Christmas cards as this is looming!).

Thanks all!

I'm getting a bit confused as what comment to put on what thread now!! You can tell we are all so enthusiastic can't you!
I do the girlie face by out a punching a circle of flesh coloured card, hand cut 2 ear shapes allowing excess for sticking, and a neck shape too. Chalk edges of "fleshy bits" for a bit of depth & stick ears to head.Stick collar on card, and neck piece on top.Use a smaller punch for eyes or wobbly eyes for a fun effect.Chalk blush for cheeks and draw in details. Hair is a bit time consuming but it does make use of my very large collection of wool!Make hair similar as a rag doll and stick on. When dry style with plaits, bunches..using 3d pads attach face to backing with neck & collar already in place.
Adaptations-baby, just a strand of hair, one little tooth, little boys-use a half circle slightly larger & make up a peak for a baseball cap.
I had to do one for a friend who was one of 9 siblings-fitting 9 faces on was rather tricky but I really enjoyed trying to make each one look like the real person using glasses, stubble, little red pouting lips...the possibilities are endless.

Melsy yours are super,is it a stamp the little cake?

You'll laugh at this it took me ages to sign in as I kept putting nutters instead of netters.I just couldn't understand why it wouldn't let me get in.Then it clicked dur.

Thanks everyone. I was a bit nervous posting them, in case everyone thought they were crap!

Champs - That red basket was only one of about 4 or 5!!! I make them as the mood takes me, and then also make commissions when I get them. You can see why I need to do something about selling more can't you!

melsy · 06/10/2004 19:18

have any of you ever bought the card blanks from baker ross? are they really bad quality? cos they seem extremely cheap at under £4 for 50

beautiful cards btw

Chinchilla · 06/10/2004 19:27

No amfs (is that your permanent new name BTW?), I have never bought anything from Baker Ross. I think some people have though, so maybe they'll tell you what they think of the card blanks.

Amfs · 06/10/2004 19:31

will be interested in verdict on bakerross card blanks (as am just making feeble forays into doing our own christmas cards )

Not sure yet .. quite like amfs ... sounds a bit like my old dog sneezing

Chinchilla · 06/10/2004 19:37

I like it actually! Sounds sort of Dutch. Docrafts sell packs of 50 white or cream card blanks for £9.99 (in the Range), which are good quality, but not as cheap as BR.

Dingle · 06/10/2004 19:48

Just as a comparison I buy my "ready made" card blanks from Craft Creations. If we are talking A6 single folded they work out £6.80 for 50 but envelopes not included. Two qualities of envelope cheapest at £2 per 50. The bonus is that you have quite a few colours to choose from and can mix & match with the card type IYSWIM.
Haven't ordered from BR recently-what's their postage like?

champs · 07/10/2004 00:36

have brought card blanks from baker ross, they were brill. I made ds2 christening invitations with them. Try them, you can always send them back if you dont like them.
