My best friend's little boy will be 7 in early Sept and he has everything- and I mean EVERYTHING.He has so many toy cars that I now refuse to buy him anything with or about a car, he was just given a mobile phone by his parents, he has the attention span of a gnat- except for playing x-box games, so can anyone help? It's my first post, so be gentle please

A set of gardening tools and some slow growing seeds.

£10 book token. Seriously. Best presents.
Or sponsor an animal at the zoo in his name.

I'd get him something nice to wear, eg a cool Gap top. Get a slightly large size so he will grow into it and won't have many clothes yet of that size. Put in the receipt so he can change it if he doesn't like it.

Clothes are essential and they get used up (and can then be passed on or go to Oxfam) so they won't add to his possessions mountain.

berolina · 07/08/2007 22:18

Yes, absolutely, book token - or take him off your friend's hands for an afternoon and take him to a big bookshop to choose a book (dh and I have done this with our niece and nephew when they were 9 and 7).

Kaloo20 · 07/08/2007 22:19

A big box to put everything in :-)

oregonianabroad · 07/08/2007 22:20

If you could bear to be in his company, take him out for an afternoon (beach, park, zoo, sea world, library, film, diggerland???)

If not, vouchers for parents to do the same.

I also like spud's gardening idea.

mumto2nuttybells · 07/08/2007 22:20

May be get him an pet as he is a little older, perhaps a hamster or fish cheap and easy, or a kitten or little dog, bird or a little lizard, its hard what to think of when kids now days have got most toys and nice clothes

quint · 07/08/2007 22:20

Something he can make or do. Don;t the people who do the horrible history books also do sciene type experiments

mumto2nuttybells · 07/08/2007 22:21

sorry i thoguht he was your son, you could look for rescue pets if price is a problem!

babygrand · 07/08/2007 22:26

Token of some sort - book token/HMV/WHSmith etc. As well as meaning they can choose for themselves, it teaches them the value of things.

PhoenixCymru · 07/08/2007 22:30

He has a dog- poor little creature gets hauled around all the time. Great idea about the bookstore, I know he reads well. I've bought him loads of clothes and I hardly ever see him wearing them. Come to think of it I hardly ever see him wearing anything but pants. The next Saturday I have from work and he comes over to visit, I shall be making some muffins with him- he's alreay picked out the recipe.Thank you all for your input, keep it coming!

One thing i am not getting him is the Walk and Glide skates. He doesn't need any help getting lost around town centres. He would love them though!. Fabulous site. Thanks littlelapin

Cinema vouchers.

Incidentally, I am sure my friends think that my dc's have everything - they don't.
