Is there anything you love about weddings?!

Following on from the rather cynical - what do you hate........

I was wondering what touches from weddings you REALLY liked........so I can be sure to include them

I like it when they actually marry and we clap ( my dad always let congregations calp)
I like throwing the bouquet

I like touching short speeches

The party after ... including the booze ... the fact that DH and I were the last standing at our reception at 4am, having drunk everyone else under the table ... Never worked out why a couple would want to leave a party early, especially their own party!

OOOh Becca I love everything about weddings, but here are a few:

I love it when:
*The Bride makes a speech
*The best mans speech includes silly props, jokes, and embarrassing photo's of the bride and groom
*The bride and groom have had secret dancing lessons and stun everyone with their moves to the first dance
*guests receive a scroll tied by a beautiful ribbon of a reading/peom which was read during the service
*when the services of a professional toastmaster are used instead of an MC provided by the venue

In my years of wedding co-ordinating a professional toastmaster makes sooo much difference, and they look wonderful in their red outfits. They cost about £300 but are well worth it IMO.

I like it when the happy couple stay together for at least a year - makes it worth spending money on the present.

Becca I did a wedding once where the bride read a poem she'd written to her Mum, and her Dad who had passed away. Everyone was in tears.

Northerner would it be ever so cheeky to ask for a CAT telling me what to do and when

So far all Ive done is booked the venue for ceremony and day reception

Becca not cheeky at all. I work in corporate event management now so no more weddings but I'm sure I've stiil got all my stuff at home in the loft. I'll see wht I can dig out for you.

Good thread Becca, I'm getting married in February and at the moment the planning of stupid little things that shouldnt matter but do is driving me crazy!!!

Keep them coming - but we aren't having an evening do - so suggestions about us being Fred and Ginger are a bit redundant!

I love just remembering my own wedding to dh when I'm attending someone else's, and thinking 'they've got all of this in front of them!'

Becca - I made a speech and it went down very well!
Also, like the couple reciting their vows and not repeating them after the minister/registrar. We did that and it felt as if we (me and DH) were the only people there
Also like plenty of wine at weddings - don't limit it to 2 glasses per person

I like it when it moves your DP so much he proposes! 5 years later the happy couple are divorced (his affair with secretary) we are still together but not married yet.

corny answer but the best thing is seeing a really happy couple, surrounded by all their friends and family. Looking at them and thinking yep, they're perfect for each other. Beats any amount of colour-co-ordinated umbrellas, sofas, and porta-loos. (am not joshing, having been to such a wedding!).
