Following on from the rather cynical - what do you hate........

I was wondering what touches from weddings you REALLY liked........so I can be sure to include them

The best weddings I have ever been to (mine included) have been short on formality and heavy on the fun aspect. I went to onbe once which felt more like a photo opportunity than a wedding. We never got to talk to the bride and groom, they were always being posed, prodded and followed a strict timetable. The more successful ones seem to have a reflection of the couple's personality in them. For example, when my eldest sister got married, the whole family had a job, from driving the cars to cooking the food. It was low stress, if anything went wrong (like my brother crashing my car on a trip to get more cream) it didn't really seem to matter so much, someone else just stepped in to take up the slack. My abiding memory of that wedding was my new BIL drunkenly making a speech before cutting the cake, waving the cake knife around as he talked and everybody ducking.

I agree with Slug, do your own thing not what you think is expected . Ours was very informal, my dad didn't want to make a speech, so didn't; a friend did the photos (into the night too so we had some great natural pics of guests on the dance floor!); we had a hot buffet instead of a set meal and as the reception was across the road from the church we have some super 'abbey road' style photos of everyone on the pedestrian crossing (including me with my skirts hitched up ). But the important thing to remember is that no matter what you have planned, your guests don't know the exact minute details, so if something goes wrong don't worry about it or let it spoil your day...it's a day your going to remember hopefully forever, so ENJOY IT :0)

i HATE standing around after a ceremony waiting for the "group shot" to be done, a recent wedding i went to, the photographer took the group shot first then everybody could go off in to the reception and get drunk wainting for the bridal party to complete thier photos.
i loved the idea that my bf had at her wedding two weeks ago, she hired a kids entertainer in a room adjoining the main room which was a great help as it stopped the kids bursting balloons on the dancefloor and running around pretending to be planes.

we had very informal garden wedding and an afternoon tea on my aunts property ( flew to aus for the wedding). Best thing - dh reading a beautiful poem to me.... had everyone crying. We chose our vows and all aspects of the service ( except for the legal bit that had to be said)

Everyone just helped themselves to food and drink... we left relatively early - off to the beach ( sunny aussie October) for our honeymoon but everyone else stayed and partied on!!

I agree with the informal, personal aspects rather than the organised, very formal - with post ceremony developing into a photo shoot whilst everyone hangs around.
