Where do you buy the majority of your childrens clothes from?

I buy the majority of clothes for my children from Asda. I like the clothes in there, they are very reasonably priced and I find it convenient buying clothes whilst doing my weekly shop. The other thing I like about the George collection is that they change the collection every few weeks. I love the uniforms as well.

H&M is my favourite - I must've spent a small fortune in there on dd (and myself too).
Asda and Tesco's are handy too and great for the essentials like vests & babyfro's

tangerinecath · 12/09/2004 21:52

erm... babygro's

hoxtonchick · 12/09/2004 21:56

H&M, Gap (sale), Osh Kosh, Zara, Primark, Peacocks, Boden (sale). And e-bay of course.

xoz · 12/09/2004 21:59

Asda, Primark, Tesco, Matalan, or charity shops when I buy them day to day stuff, but seem to be offered so many hand-me-downs that I haven't really needed to buy much for a while.
For the odd better outfit I go to H&M, Pumpkin Patch or Next, but I love the clothes at Monsoon
It's just too expensive though for anything but the most special of occasions!

linnet · 12/09/2004 22:12

Misdee, I stopped buying clothes from Adams as they always seemed to shrink in the wash the frist time I washed them.

I shop in Asda, M&S occasionally, Next occasionally, Gap usually in the sales. MacKays is good for kids clothes, not sure how widespread they are though. Think they might just be here in Scotland. We recently got a Monsoon shop in our town and I had a look, the clothes are lovely but a bit pricey for my budget.

When I was pregnant I was given loads of clothes from someone at work (her dd had outgrown them all) so I'm not going to need to buy my dd2 very many clothes from about 6-18 months as I have loads of dresses, dungarees etc. Loads of hats and mittens as well.

misdee · 12/09/2004 22:18

linnet i have as well. i bought dd1 loads of clothes in their a couple of years ago and was fed up with the shrinkage problem.

pollyanna · 12/09/2004 22:31

I like Boden (mostly restricted to sale stuff though), gap, h&m, Asda (I don't have one nearby but my mum buys stuff there) and Zara (my sister buys clothes there for my 3. My rich sister also buys ridiculously priced clothes from various designer shops in Islington and also Monsoon for us too. I've gone off Next recently.

Jennisaurus · 12/09/2004 22:39

Asda, Tescos, Mothercare and Peacocks.

Tortington · 12/09/2004 22:58

my next door neighbour is a size 10 ish and my daughter is a size 8 ( shes only 11!) anyway she gives daughter fab clothes. we get some from charity shops and dhs aunty gets loads for us

Polgara2 · 12/09/2004 23:01

Usually Asda, Tesco, Next outlet shop or Next sales. Or dd2 has got quite a bit from the fashion shows that they have at her school. I have never been to H&M but it seems to be a popular choice with everyone. Just out of interest what do you all call reasonably priced ?

polly28 · 12/09/2004 23:36

Gap(sale only)H&M,Primark,Boots(sale)PumpkinPatch(sale)
can you tell I'm cheap.

Reasonable to me is No more than £8 for trousers but preferably around £5
£5 at the most for a top
£1-2 for a t-shirt
pjs primark £5 for two pairs

Buy vests from M&S as find they are worth the extra

breeze · 13/09/2004 07:56

My son gets the majority of his clothes from George at asda, £1.50 per t-shirt and £2.50 for a fleece jumper, and usually about £3 for trousers you cant really go wrong, and they last well as well.

woodpops · 13/09/2004 09:32

Gap, Zara, Debenhams, Next and just discovered TK Max. I find ds alot easier to dress than dd. Girls clothes are so much harder to find.

Twinkie · 13/09/2004 09:34

GAP, Zara, M&S and Next.

Have got all of DSs so far from M&S, Mothercare and M&P - although he not even here to wear them!!

posyhairdresser · 16/09/2004 19:09

Car boot sales & ebay for the "vintage" look!

If its good enough for Hollywood stars...

blossom2 · 16/09/2004 19:11

Gap baby & kids
Boots
Monsoon

when they are on sale that is ...

Bozza · 16/09/2004 21:56

Asda, Next Outlet, Pumpkin Patch, Matalan (with the emphasis being on Asda). Thought H&M had some nice stuff in for baby girls though so might try it when DD needs some more stuff.

Dahlia · 16/09/2004 22:08

Linnet, I like Mackays too - they are up here (Manchester). I am having real problems finding jeans or leggings to fit dd2 - she is 15 months but still in 9-12mths on the whole, and every pair of trousers I try on her just hang off her waist. Does anyone else have a slim waisted baby and where do you buy her trousers???

lavender1 · 16/09/2004 22:12

Woolworths, Mackays and Peacocks(all local shops within 4 miles of us) and sometimes M&S and mothercare occassionally

KangaMummy · 16/09/2004 22:14

how do you find out when the GAP sale is about to start? Is it the same in every store?

zippy539 · 16/09/2004 22:36

Gap (another sales only) , asda, tesco and H&M.

linnet · 16/09/2004 22:53

I find out about the gap sale when I walk past and there is a big sign in the window saying SALE

Dahlia my dd1 is very slim and she's also small so most of her clothes are for a year younger. She's 7 now but most of her trousers are 5-6 or 6-7 depending on where we shop, why do some shops go 5-6, 6-7, 7-8 and others go 5-6, 7-8? I've never understood that. She was given some trousers for her birthday age 7 and they just fall right off her when she puts them on, keep meaning to take them back but always forget.

KangaMummy · 16/09/2004 22:57

LOL linnet

I meant is there a way of guessing when they will start ie 1st week in sept??

I know I could keep ringing them up.

It means a trip into town and a bit wasted if sale started 3 weeks earlier and not much choice left. IYSWIM

marialuisa · 17/09/2004 09:00

GAP always have stuff on sale. you just have to pop in whenever you go past. usually about 6 weeks between new collection and first reductions.

foxinsocks · 17/09/2004 09:07

I'm a real Primark fan - especially for pyjamas and things like tracksuits and fleeces.

Dahlia, I have a skinny dd and ds and found some of the best things that fit them are the expensive French brands (like Petit Bateau). However, I can't afford to buy their clothes from there so the waist adjustable trousers from Gap in the sale are the best things to buy. The length is right then (because if you buy a size down often the trouser length is too short) and you can fasten the elastic on the tighest button and then just take it out a button if they get bigger. Not sure if they do waist adjustable stuff when they are little though.
