Friend gave me the Mums on Babies book and it was a blinding revelation that there were other new mums, muddling through like me ? so different from all those other parenting books where some expert talks down to you and insists obedience to their methods is the only way to happiness. Had to check it out and barely turned the computer off since .

edam · 11/09/2004 23:07

um, just to clarify, that wasn't a dig at Gina, by the way, was thinking of parenting books as a category (and actually find Mm S**d far more irritating).

littlemel · 12/09/2004 00:38

Bought the mums on pregnancy book and found it extremely useful so thought id have a look!!

highlander · 12/09/2004 02:04

I got pregnant accidentally and was surfing for sites on termination info. Stumbled onto MN and my gut reaction was that it was good. Have rarely looked at any other sites and have since never felt the need to buy a pregnancy book!

Found you all by accident when I was searching for a raincover for a major buggy. I've been nosing for a few weeks and have only just got the nerve to post anything!

KateandtheGirls · 12/09/2004 03:36

It's all soupdragon's fault. I "knew" her from another site (Babycenter's UK board) which used to be very active but has been pretty dead recently, and she mentioned this site...

NomDePlume · 12/09/2004 08:56

I also stumbled on it by accident. I think I was doing a search on some bit of nursery equipment and one of the MN reviews came up. That was when DD was about 8 months old, she's 2y 1m now.

Lowryn · 12/09/2004 09:03

How bizarre. I was just going to start this very same thread myself!

My mum recommended that I look at netmums and I accidentally typed the name the wrong way round and got this most fabulous and wonderful site!

I still haven't checked netmums...what's the point!

I only wish I had found it when I was expecting DD.

emmatmg · 12/09/2004 09:23

I was desparately broody for another baby and was searching the internet for cheap double buggies. Mumsnet reviews came up.
DH hadn't even agreed to No.3 but I needed more fuel for my side of the argument "Look Dh, this lovely double buggy is only £99, and they deliver it free"

A few weeks later I was PG and we did buy the buggy but that wasn't the thing that changed his mind

Was pursuing one of my regular trains of anxiety about ds's development. This was just around the time the Special Needs board became a separate topic - can't remember how long ago - but was a very longterm lurker before daring to emerge. Have learnt so very much, & met some fantastic people.

motherinferior · 12/09/2004 13:16

Saw a reference in the Guardian. Popped in to see what it was like, lurked for a bit, then posted a thread-killer about maternity jeans, then posted about advice on home births...

Tortington · 12/09/2004 22:33

rhubarb nagged and nagged me to pay a visit - took me months to get into it - i coudn't get past the "baby" slant to the whole site. however a couple of years later and am here ever day almost.

pollyanna · 12/09/2004 22:40

I was looking for a review on family holidays.

lou33 · 12/09/2004 22:45

Dh read a review about it when i was pg with number 4, and thought i might be interested.

Aero · 12/09/2004 23:42

Found it by accident (though I'm sure it was meant to be)! Was looking for info on mastitis and a link to a conversation came up. The advice and support was invaluable and I've been hooked ever since!

breeze · 13/09/2004 07:55

My friend kept saying, someone of mumsnet said this and some on mumsnet said that, she would also tell a story about something funny that happened and I'd say who your friend X and she would say no XX on mumsnet, so I thought I had better look and see what all the fuss was about and then got completely hooked, which was good because I made a few very good friends on the site.

whizzz · 13/09/2004 08:54

Searching for child friendly holidays & found a reference on MN - looked interesting - lurked around for a while & now hooked !

A friend recommended it to me when I was 18 weeks pg and I have been addicted ever since. I think I will have to learn to breastfeed whilst sitting at the computer!!

Miaou · 17/09/2004 20:09

I read about it in a Sunday Times review of best sites. I SO wish I had found it when dds were younger or when pg.

yingers74 · 17/09/2004 20:11

I read an article in one of the national papers, it was talking about how mumsnet was helping lonely mums get together in a safe and less threatening environment. I then logged on to check it out!

blossom2 · 17/09/2004 20:18

can't remember how it all started but can't get enough now

Mirage · 17/09/2004 20:43

Bayleaf recommended Mumsnet to me.So I should blame my addiction on her.

popsycal · 17/09/2004 20:48

Freddiecat told me to have a look

chrissey14 · 17/09/2004 20:58
