OK, I admit it, I'm a Voyager and Stargate fan although I don't watch much else sci-fi. I fancy Daniel Jackson and Jack O'Neill in SG1 as Daniel's so clever and Jack is so capable - I'm A SAD WOMAN!!! And I love Captain Janeway - can't think why they waited for so long to invent a woman Starfleet Captain. So am I the only saddo or will anyone else confess?

I love Voyager/ Janeway too. Especially love any episode with Q. Don't see the Stargate thing though - I know it sounds a bit silly, but it's simply too far fetched. And as for Scott Bacula as the new Starfleet captain in Enterprise: what were they on???

bea · 13/08/2002 20:07

oh no no no!!!

i am the sci fi nerdy of the family! i lauged myself silly when the x files film came out and dragged dh out to see it and then took great delight in the fact that he looked like the sad sci fi nerd who had dragged his poor wifey out! ha! ha! he was mortified... hmmmm Foxy Smouldery Mulder!

I do like voyager, must admit they did a clever thing when introducing seven of nine, even though a blatant device to pull the men in, i like borgy storylines... it is very sad when you think it is funny when describing your standing within yyour families siblings.... oh yes i am 2 of four! - i've caught myself saying this!

and yes daniel jackson.... have you seen the end of the last series - as o don't want to be a spoiler....

and finally the magnificent buffy! took the x files place within my affections as the last current 2 series of x files have been absolute bobbins! (no mulder!) and buffy and spike are ace!

oh dear i could go on and on! but enough for now!

come on your sci fi boffins! crawl out of your space shiips and stand up and be counted!

bossykate · 13/08/2002 21:36

star trek! star trek! star trek! don't watch tos much any more but we're big fans of the rest, including enterprise (although the title song is soooo naff!)

will watch almost any movie with a space/sci fi theme. hence we have exposed ourselves to possibly the worst film of all time "event horizon".

also really like b5 and dip in and out of the x files.

anyone remember "dark skies"? what about "space: above and beyond"? we used to love that!

Chinchilla · 13/08/2002 22:36

What about 'Quantum Leap'!!! Class programme. My dh loves sci-fi, but thinks that I am a really sad person for having watched that.

Bossykate - 'Event Horizon' - you and I must be the two poor saps who actually watched it! Yawn, zzzz...

jodee · 13/08/2002 23:56

Not so much nowadays, but I was hooked as a kid on Space 1999 and Blakes 7, I used to fancy Avon (why???)!

JanZ · 14/08/2002 08:39

B5 was my favourite - and they still need to finish it!

I love all sci-fi - as long as it is not too scary! I'm a REALLY sad person in that I (still!) get scared easily, even watching things like old Dr Whos (friends at Uni used to refuse to sit next to me as I would jump with shock watching Star Trek and frighten them!), and I'm really squeamish.

Don't watch as much as I used to - the various Star Trek and Stargate etc programmes are all on in the early evening, which is prime "ds" time.

Enid · 14/08/2002 08:51

I'm a bit of a nerd, I like some scifi a lot. Loved Star Trek next generation and like the new series too, but never liked Voyager/Andromeda etc etc. LOVE Buffy and Angel, used to like the X-files but can't be bothered now. Joss Whedon (creator of Buffy and Angel) has done a new scifi series called Firefly which looks as though it will be fab.

SimonHoward · 14/08/2002 08:51

Finally a thread where I won't be the odd one out.

Star Trek
STNG
DS9
Voyager
Enterprise
Babylon 5
Stargate
Space Above and Beyond
Blakes 7
Dr Who
Robotech
Starship Troopers (not anything like the book though)
Space 1999
UFO
Thunderbirds
Captain Scarlet
Starfleet
Battlestar Galactica
Buck Rogers in the 21st Century

And that's just the TV show's. I've lost count of all the films, books, comics, magazines and other bits to do with Sci-Fi that I have had over the years.

The worse bit is that I have as much if not more Fantasy stuff and watch that sort of thing as well.

I can't wait for the collectors version of the LotR - TFotR DVD to come out with all the extra footage, and roll on this xmas for LotR - TTT.

Having now just proved my geekhood I will retire to my room and hide.

Luckily DW is into almost all of it as well so I don't get any grief over it.

tigermoth · 14/08/2002 09:52

Anyone remember 'The Survivors', a series about a group of UK survivors (doh) of germ warfare, on TV circa late '70's early 80's? or am I alone in my sadness?

bettys · 14/08/2002 09:57

Yes ! I loved the Survivors, it was a great series. It sort of petered out though, like a lot of those 70's shows. I am so sad...I look these things up on internet episode guides.
Also loved Scott Bakula in Quantum Leap. Good choice for Enterprise but I haven't been watching it as it clashes with CBeebies, and guess who wins the war of the remote.
BIG Buffy fan.
Dp thinks I am vvv sad.

Snugs · 14/08/2002 10:05

Love 'em all! Oh and Lucy123 .... Stargate too far fetched? NEVER! All makes perfect sense to me

Snugs · 14/08/2002 10:06

Love 'em all!

Oh and Lucy123 .... Stargate too far fetched? NEVER! All makes perfect sense to me

Snugs · 14/08/2002 10:06

Ohh spooky sci-fi thing happened there ... didn't hit refresh honest!

Janeway · 14/08/2002 10:06

Its more like coming out than come in.

I too am a sci-fi geek-ette, though recently my fixes of SG-1, TNG & Voyager havn't been giving me the hit I need - I'm onto the hard stuff - films (Matrix, MIB etc) to keep me going, though cinema visits are still a rare luxury and the small screen doesn't realy do them justice.

I dream of the time when I can read the good stuff too (ds is no longer sleeping in the pram during visits to the park so I'm missing out on my reading time)If you havn't tried Crystal Age, you really should.

Bron - you're not alone

bettys · 14/08/2002 10:11

Chakotay - phwoar!

WideWebWitch · 14/08/2002 11:09

Agree about Chakotay! But not Sisco. Janeway, MIB2 is really disappointing IMO. And The Matrix Reloaded isn't out until next year Lucy123, err, you say Stargate is too far fetched - so Star Trek is believable, is it? hmmm?

OP posts:
Enid · 14/08/2002 12:57

Try Minority report if you are into Scifi films, its a goody.

Lucy123 · 14/08/2002 13:06

yes www, see what you're saying there. But at least in Star Trek you have space ships and things that are potentially possible (and lots of "quantum singularities" - Stargate is just silly. And Star Trek does have believable characters, except as I say, the new one.

Also think Cisco is yummy - it's the voice. And Chakotay - not that fussy really...

Gumdrop · 14/08/2002 13:12

How about Farscape, my personal fave.

What I wouldn't give to look like Erin Sun, and be able to behave like her as well, strong, capable and takes no C**p from anyone.

Hey ho, meanwhile back on planet working mum, muddling along as usual................

SimonHoward · 14/08/2002 15:51

At least you ladies have the taste and good sense to fancy the good looking actors, DW has a thing for the Ferengi (especially Quark) and for Neelix.

Lucy123 · 14/08/2002 16:19

The Ferengi?? Whatever do you look like, SH?
