OK, I admit it, I'm a Voyager and Stargate fan although I don't watch much else sci-fi. I fancy Daniel Jackson and Jack O'Neill in SG1 as Daniel's so clever and Jack is so capable - I'm A SAD WOMAN!!! And I love Captain Janeway - can't think why they waited for so long to invent a woman Starfleet Captain. So am I the only saddo or will anyone else confess?

I had nightmares for about 6 months over Timeslip. The one set in the future in an ice age and they could stop the aging process. And then it stopped working and the woman's face transformed into the 200 year old face it should have looked like!!! Also, the one where the earth was moving towards the sun and the sun filled up about 1/2 of the sky - really, really scary!

Blakes 7 - my very very favourite programme of all time. Excet it looks SO dated now! I think it could probably be remade quite sucessfully. Love all the Star Treks except Enterprise (didn't grab me like the others), Buffy, Farscape, B5... always enjoyed SG1 when I remembered to watch it.

And Lord of the Rings - superb! Desperately hanging on til the collector's DVD comes out!

I have a loft full of Sci Fi/fantasy books too...

Bossykate!

Willow2 · 21/08/2002 22:21

I know it's not sci-fi - but anyone missing Buffy?

bettys · 21/08/2002 22:29

ME ME ME!! I need my Spike fix!

Willow2 · 22/08/2002 07:54

Bettys - I don't know... a love of pinot grigio, fine food, a ds at wm, and a complete obsession with Spike.... where we separated at birth?

Willow2 · 22/08/2002 07:56

I meant were (it's early) not where

Joe1 · 22/08/2002 09:30

Spike is on at the moment on Sky One every night in the Buffy repeats. Keeps you going until the new series next year.

bettys · 22/08/2002 23:21

Willow2 - Spooky isn't it? Wanna borrow my Watcher's Guide?

What sci-fi books does anyone read? I've gone through the gamut of Anne McCaffrey, Frank Herbert etc and need something new. Any suggestions?

Willow2 · 28/08/2002 23:08

Depends which one - have the first two. Essential bathroom reading!

Robinw

You have made the assumtion that the parents in question read themselves.

I was lucky and was brought up in a house full of books of every sort.

My DW was brought up in a house where the only book was the Bible and she hated reading it.

This has shown up as she rarely reads books and when she does she usually gets bored and stops reading. I on the other hand go through books like they are going out of fashion.

If the parents don't read or hate reading then convincing a child to read is difficult.

Bozza · 29/08/2002 15:13

SimonHoward - I read, but I doubt that my son is aware of the fact. Since most of it is done well after he has gone to bed.

bossykate · 30/08/2002 19:44

simon, been meaning to get back to this thread for a while, dh and i really used to enjoy S:AAB - do you know if they ever made a second series? i know it wasn't shown here, at least on the mainstream channels. was dark skies one of your fixes also? what do you and dw think of enterprise?

SimonHoward · 31/08/2002 21:19

Bossykate

S:AAB never went beyond series one as it was supposedly just used as a test bed for various special effects systems that they wanted to try out. Shame though as it was quite good.

Never got into Dark Skies and gave up on X-Files in about season 4.

I liked Enterprise but being a bit of a Trekky I did sit there pointing out the continuity muckups that happened (whis was one of the reasons DW made me watch it on another TV to the one she was watching). I think it is fun but not really Star Trek.

Out off all of them DW and I much prefer B5.

bossykate · 02/09/2002 19:59

Thanks for your note, Simon. Dh and I have been enjoying Enterprise - but there is quite a lot of plot recycling from previous series, e.g. when the away team all go mad through exposure to hallucinogenic pollen - I think all the different series have had an ep with that or v. similar plot!

milkbar · 01/02/2003 12:33

For other trekkies: I was in a bar on Wednesday night with PATRICK STEWART. He was not very tall. But I knew that because i had seen his costume at ST: The Adventure. (which is toddler friendly btw) My friend was worried I would go 'all trekkie' and embarass her by gushing/snogging/asking for autograph. I kept my cool. On the outside.

bossykate · 01/02/2003 19:41

ooh milkbar! where was this?

milkbar · 02/02/2003 10:47

10-4ward. No, in a hotel bar in Covent Garden. Has anyone seen Nemesis yet? We haven't organised babysitting for this yet, but I have heard it's not very good. I downloaded the trailer and 'don't be so vain' made me smile.

bossykate · 02/02/2003 18:04

lol, milkbar! no, haven't seen it yet...
