Do your children wear clean school uniform every day?

Following on from the clean pj thread I thought I would start this one! Mine both have complete clean uniform everyday as they always have something down there jumpers, dresses etc. Lots of my friends children don't and I wouldn't (only t-shirts) but have to as they get in such a mess!

My 2 boys (12 1/2 & almost 11) both have clean uniform on everyday, again because they get absolutely FILTHY at school, mainly from playing football at break-time.

It's only my dd's second day ever but she's in the same pinafore as yesterday as it's spotless. Clean polo shirt though.
Clean P.J's every night

Kayleigh · 08/09/2004 10:31

I can usually get away with a pair of trousers for ds1 for two days. Shorts maybe 3 days. T-shirts/shirts same as you as nearly always dirty by end of the day. And anyway in summer my ds1 is a sweaty thing so wouldn't dream of putting his t-shirt back on him.

marialuisa · 08/09/2004 10:36

Depends, she's still in summer dresses and the most i can get out of those is 2 days (rarely!). She doesn't really wear her school cardigans much so after 12 months they still look pristine. Winter uniform seems to stay cleaner but give her a clean shirt every day. Her blazer goes in the machine at least once a week, think i must have been an exceptionally clean child as mine just went to the drycleaners at the end of every term-if DD's was dry clean only it would be crippling.

blossomhill · 08/09/2004 10:37

My dd is so fussy as well. She'll decide one day to wear her summer dress and then the next pinafore. Oh and I really want to wear my skirt with flowers on it. Although this year is adament that she won't wear trousers. Poor ds only has trousers or shorts to choose from!

My DD (2) also has clean PJs on every night.

Also, do you Mums of older boys find that they come home with an unfathomable amount of biro/felt tip pen on their t-shirts/shirts/jumpers ? It's a wonder either of mine get pen in their books !

discordia · 08/09/2004 10:40

Dd (7) usually manages to keep her clothes fairly clean - sometimes wears same trousers for whole week (she changes after school)! She is still wearing same clothes as on Monday this week (except socks and pants of course!!!). Ds (5, year one) however, needs a clean shirt every day shirts are white and get unspeakably filthy. I haven't bought him new shirts, he is still wearing last years stained ones. Will buy new ones at half term when he starts to wear a sweatshirt on top!

blossomhill · 08/09/2004 10:43

NDP - yes they do. I had to bin all of ds's t-shirts as they were wrecked. Now he has lovely white new ones. Dd's were fine from last year although she did wear her summer dresses for the last few months.
Sometimes I put ds's t-shirts through a quick wash with a little bit of bleach. they come out as good as new

Ds1 only started this week but so far he's had a clean polo shirt on each day but the same trousers. There are definite advantages to having a child who hates getting dirty.

NomDePlume · 08/09/2004 10:48

Blossomhill, I can't do that with DS1's shirts as they are yellow polo shirts .

blossomhill · 08/09/2004 10:49

Didn't think of that, sorry! I bet they are hard to get hold of!

We have to pay through the nose at the school shop as they also have the school emblem on them. P*$$es me off, rather than get 2 for £10 from Woolies or whatever, I have to pay £8.50 EACH for the bloody things. I wouldn't mind so much if they washed well, but by 2 months they're a faded lemon colour- grrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

I also have to buy DS2's polo shirts, which are white but also have the insignia on from the blasted school shop. Equally purse bruising. Arggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

blossomhill · 08/09/2004 10:57

At ds's school we can buy the t-shirts with the emblem but have the choice to just have plain ones. They are like yours £8.50 each or do I buy 5 plain white for £7 from Asda. Um, tough choice

my dd does have clean clothes on every day, but she doesnt have to wear a uniform to school

But she gets filthy too

NomDePlume · 08/09/2004 10:59

Hmmm, I'd lose sleep over that one, too...

Momof2 · 08/09/2004 11:04

DD tends to change each day because she gets her clothes so covered in grass stains etc. If on the off chance she keeps them clean then she wears the jumper and trousers again, but we always change the polo shirt.
LOL though - one day last year it was a Friday and (BM alert) had run out of clean jumpers. The previous days smelt of chips but was clean so I sprayed it with some body shop perfume. At the end of school DD's BF came up to me and said "Lottie's Mummy, Lottie smelt wonderful today"

blossomhill · 08/09/2004 11:07

I must say that they do wear the fleeces for more than one day but they only wear them walking to school and at playtime!

Lonelymum · 08/09/2004 11:31

Gosh I must be a filthy mother! Mine keep wearing their clothes as long as they look clean and I know nothing has gone down them. Shirts are changed every two days, trousers every week , jumpers probably every 2/3 days. And they have clean pjs once a week unless there is an accident. You'll be telling me next you change the bed sheets every day!

TraceyP · 08/09/2004 11:46

I don't change the bed sheets every day (not by a long chalk) but DD has clean clothes every day and clean PJs every night - I wouldn't want to wear the same top two days running (I'd stink) so why should she?

lou33 · 08/09/2004 11:46

Mine get clean stuff when they spill things , otherwise it gets washed at the end of the week. Dd1 has 2 or 3 school shirts a week though, because the necks get grimy.

PicadillyCircus · 08/09/2004 11:57

When I was at school I had same blouse for three days then a clean one on Thursday. Same skirt every day - it got washed once a week. When it was summer I had two dresses a week. And only had one jumper in total!

And I had clean pyjamas once a week. Maybe that's how my mum managed with no washing machine

Marina · 08/09/2004 12:11

I think you are absolutely right Picadilly Circus. We did not have a washing machine until I was about 10 and my mum did wonders with sponging off blobs etc but basically it was one pinny a week and a shirt every other day. I know I frequently bung on a wash of lightly soiled stuff when she would not have done so because of the huge faff of washing and drying it all.
Ds gets through the school week with fresh shirts daily but a "ration" of two jumpers, ties and shorts, reserve item deployed when original gets beyond nightly Vanishing. Ds' shorts were ELEVEN QUID EACH, hence the stingy approach.

blossomhill · 08/09/2004 12:24

No LM, beds get changed about 1 a week. Sometimes 10 days if it's really raining alot as I don't have tumble dryer!

How often do people buy ... new towels? new sheets?
I let my kids keep wearing things until they smell or don't look clean any more. I thnk the economy would collapse if everyone were like me.

Lonelymum · 08/09/2004 12:38

Funny how people differ on this issue. PC and Marina's childhoods sound like mine and I see no reason to be different for my kids. My mum did have a washing machine but it was standard practice to change shirts every other day. I still do unless it gets very dirty. I don't think I smell. Anyway, kids don't sweat the same way as adults do.
