Do your children wear clean school uniform every day?

Following on from the clean pj thread I thought I would start this one! Mine both have complete clean uniform everyday as they always have something down there jumpers, dresses etc. Lots of my friends children don't and I wouldn't (only t-shirts) but have to as they get in such a mess!

FWIW, I'm a sweaty scrote so it HAS to be clean all the way every day

blossomhill · 08/09/2004 21:02

Lonely mum - I very rarely iron school uniform, only polo shirts and if they need it other bits.
My 2nd tip of the day (after the bleaching t-shirt one is that I only put a small amount of uniform in, eg trousers and then put in loads of fabric conditioner. Then I get them out of the machine, smooth them and hang them out to dry or if it's winter over the radiators (heat removes creases). I iron all other clothes but most school uniform has teflon it so that you don't need to iron. It works, Honest!

Wow, some of you really like washing I guess. My dd has just started school & after 3 days nothing looks dirty, I shall have a sniff of her top but don't really see the need to change it if it's not dirty.
She changes after tho, & is only doing 9-12. Having bought a PE kit, have been told they will do it in pants & vest to start with, have to find a suitable vest now...
Her pyjamas get washed when they smell. ha ha.

Well, this is a revelation!

I'm sure that when I was at school we only had clean uniforms once a week...

goodkate · 08/09/2004 21:39

I'm amazed and mucky. I'm with galaxy on this one.
My dd, 10 changes her shirt when she wants to, usually every other day. Her Skirt and blazer go to the dry cleaners every half term otherwise I sponge it down. As for her games kit. It gets the SNIFF TEST at the end of every week when she brings it home. They don't bath every day either.

What a mucky mother eh!

I say bring back dirt and harden our immune systems.

I'd be grubby if I could, but the children don't wear uniform out here and I think we'd be ostracised if we were seen to wear the same clothes two days running. Understandable when it's hot, and I wouldn't want to anyway, but on cool days when the clothes seem clean enough I get annoyed with myself for caring what other poeple think.
Mind you, I once had a manager at work who was a total skank, and wore the same pair of tights three days running - I know because she'd stuck an elastoplast over a ladder in them!

blossomhill · 08/09/2004 21:56

I do like my children to look pristine when they start the day at school, hence the clean uniform. Although they come out of school completely different. Dd for example always has her hair up neatly in pigtails, by the end of the day her hair is all over the place and her socks are half-way round her ankles(the knee high ones) I must admit I often wear jeans twice, not in a row. Would never wear tops though as they get all crumpled up.

Whats wrong with wearing a pair of tights 3 days running. I wear mine 3 months running.

Actually thats a big fat lie, but we are we so obsessed with being so scrupulously clean. I loved getting dirty so much as a girl. It meant I was having fun.

blossomhill · 08/09/2004 21:59

Couldn't agree more GK. If we go to the farm or on a family day out there is nothing I love more than to see my 2 children full of mud and grubby (seriously) as it means they have had a good time. I also then love getting them home for a scrub in the bath and a nice pair of clean pj's

yep, ds has clean uniform everyday as he is such a messy eater (at 7 !)

Lonelymum · 09/09/2004 13:11

Blossomhill - I no longer iron school trousers because I agree with you, they don't need it (unless they get seriously crumpled when drying). You didn't answer the question fully though! I wanted to know if you ironed 14 prs of pjs every week. I have 4 kids. That would mean me doing 28 prs per week! Four is enough for me (although some pjs don't need ironing either). I'm really glad some people have come out as being even "dirtier" than me. Glad to know not everyone is obsessed with total cleanliness.

No, I don't iron pj's or bed covers towels, tea towels, knickers I just like my children to wear clean uniform every day. Hardly a crime now is it

Mine have new ones every day as they are my sweet little mucky pups

Lonelymum · 09/09/2004 13:34

No offence intended Blossomhill!

janthepan · 09/09/2004 13:35

When my 2 boys started school I loved to iron their uniforms and have them in clean stuff every day...ah happy days, now they are older and I have a scruff for a dd, they have clean shirts and underwear each day (!) and the skirts/trousers last for the week ish...any dirt I can pass off as chalk dust (do they still have that at school??) What I can't abide is girls at primary school wearing shoes with heels..I looked around this morning and realised that of all the Mums it was their dds wearing the highest heels!

blossomhill · 09/09/2004 13:36

I just don't think it's a crime. It's like everything in life we all do things differently. No way is the right way and it's whatever you feel comfortable with.
No offence taken LM

I'm not "obsessed with total cleanliness" but I remember having to go to school in the same clothes for days on end, feeling sticky and yucky and being bullied because everyone could see I only had two school shirts. I was only allowed a bath once a week until I was about 11 so was always very aware that I never felt clean. No-one is ever going to bully my daughter for the same reason, and no-one will ever make me feel that I shouldn't dress my child in clean clothes every day, just as I dress myself in clean clothes every day. I agree with Blossomhill - we should all do what feels right for us, and bugger what anyone else thinks!!

one12 · 01/11/2023 12:15

I agree, change when dirty.
