I've been tempted a couple of times to buy ds as a present when I couldnt think of anything else but the thought of introducing more life beings into the house fills me with dread....

kalex · 01/09/2004 20:17

We have had 2 lots and they have all died within the first month. I can't keep them alive whatever I do!

I find them quite intriguing to watch swiming around and to see how many new ones I had each day, until they started reducing number. Where did they go? Do they eat each other?

kalex · 01/09/2004 20:26

Clicked on the link an d have got replacement products and accessories. But am still none the wiser, other than, don't think I won't them

I couldn't get it right the first time round and now it's three hundred percent more difficult!!!!!!!!!!!!

codswallop · 01/09/2004 20:36

no I like them
why so yuck?

charliecat · 01/09/2004 20:38

I have buckets of rainwater outside with things swimming in them..are they a relative to this?

Lowryn · 01/09/2004 20:39

I had sea monkeys on my desk at work 4 or so years ago, and one grew really big feelers or whatever those things on their heads are...My friend and I called him Murnaghan, after Dermot Murnaghan as they looked like bushy eyebrows.
When he died, I just couldn't carry on re-animating them.
Still have a packet of instant life sea monkey eggs if anyone is interested!

cuppy · 01/09/2004 20:44

We managed to keep a pack alive for 10 months. They are very odd though. You can see them mating and are supposed to be able to see them hatch (we never could). Some used to have a lump stuck on them and I never did find out what it was. Also you can spot the men from the females - the men have beards.

You can teach them to do tricks. They react to light. However I found them extremely boring and their aquarium thingy used to have a gross green film all over it which was a nightmare to clean.

Am so glad they're dead.

biketastic · 01/09/2004 21:17

Did anyone see a sitcom where they had sea monkeys that took over and had a war in the tank?? it's really doing my head in trying to remember it...

Anyway, I was so excited when somebody gave me sea monkeys as a secret santa at work. They were pants!
I can't beleive that you had one that you actually recognised Lowryn. Mine were all to little. Maybe I was doing it wrong..

AuntyQuated · 01/09/2004 21:24

we've had ours since christmas and we love them. down to 5 in dd's tank and 3 in ds's tank. i find them facinating.
hula - were you over feeding them, that seems to be the main killer! we feed ours about once evry 2 weeks or when they're looking sluggish

Hulababy · 01/09/2004 21:25

Absoultely no idea; followed instructions on the packet.

Lowryn · 01/09/2004 21:29

Ahhh, but my poor departed Murnaghan was huge and had very obvious Dermot eyebrows...Plus work was quite slow that year and my friend and I had nothing better to do than gaze at the sea monkeys.

For those of you who want the joy of a sea monkey without the actual trouble of it
have a look at this

Hulababy · 01/09/2004 21:39

Yeah! At last, using the game I did manage to keep them alive to the 2nd generation. Maybe I should keep to virtual pets in future.

LOL

tamum · 01/09/2004 21:44

I found that feeding them every- oooh- 3 months or so?? seemed to work just fine. They are pretty resilient IME. I quite like them actually, I just kept forgetting about them.

biketastic · 01/09/2004 21:47

DH says the sitcom was Balck Books. DOes anyone else remember this???

bea · 01/09/2004 22:27

i love black books! Bill Bailey is excellent and i love his billy bragg impression!... plus when i listen to the archers, can't help laughing at debbie (as she played stupid fran...)

but back to sea monkeys!... horrible but strangely fascinating!!!! (never had the pleasure of keeping them by the way!)
