This might sound pathetic but my in-laws are coming to stay with us for 5 weeks from overseas, and I don't feel I can face the prospect. They are due to arrive at any moment and I have this sinking feeling about being trapped in my own house with them and my lively two year-old for the next five weeks, while my dh goes back to work. I know there are more important things going on in the world but would appreciate the prayers of Rhubarb, Bloss, Threeangels, etc etc to get me through this with my sanity in-tact. Thank you in advance... (SAD I KNOW!!!)

Droile I agree with you about being more open/forthright on the net. But I think part of the issue arises from written communication not being as effective as face to face conversation where tone of voice, non-verbal gestures etc come into play. Mis-interpretation of the tone of a posting is very easy - I guess thats why this site is so peppered with little smilies etc - trying to signal the tone. I'm always stuck which one to use though (ie should it be a wink or a grin?).

Why do some people find it so hard to be quiet??!!! (Just in need of a whine at the moment). My in-laws have been here almost 3 weeks and my FIL knows that ds has a sleep in the middle of the day, yet he cannot seem to lower his voice and he still proceeds to slam drawers, cupboard doors, etc etc while ds is sleeping. He has a very loud, booming voice and I cannot believe that he can't lower it a few decibels for poor ds while he's trying to sleep. I've been wondering which part of his brain is missing that he can't understand the concept of "quiet". (Very unkind - I know - sorry). They also do not like to go out much at all and insist on having everything turned off during the day (radio, television, etc) because they don't have theirs on at home. Sigh... anyway I suppose I've managed to get through the first few weeks so I'll just have to get through the rest of it.

Liamsmum, but your inlaws aren't at home. If I were you I would go around turning all radios and tvs on in the house then turn them off when ds has his sleep, they will be crying out for peace and quiet by then!!

Liamsmum, could you and ds go away for a few days?
