When did you go grey?

I am starting to get paranoid about my hair turning grey, when did you start to notice grey?

I noticed my first grey hair when I was about 20, but then looked harder and noticed that there were actually quite a lot of them! They aren't too bad though as they are silvery white and look quite nice and sparkly next to my own dark blonde hair.

My dh, nice man that he is, likes to point them out to me. I notice them in certain light but try not to think about them the rest of the time. They do seem to be multiplying in numbers though. I'm very lucky though not to be completely white, as is the inheritance in my family, my cousin went completely white at 14!

No grey hairs yet (33), but as I said on the 'long hair' thread, I dye my hair (myself!) anyway so hope to never notice when they finally turn up! My Mum was in her late thirties before she got any, so hopefully I've got a few years yet.

Its true that your face colour changes as you get older. I used to dye my hair jet black (bit of a goth) but I just can't do it now. Last time I tried I looked awful - kind of sallow and old rather than pale and interesting! Do it bright red now instead

sudonim, Jane Asher once said her answer to going grey was for her auburn (or was it ginger hair to just go, well, lighter.

Meanbean, why do you think you should wait 3 months to get your hair done professionally? I don't remember exactly how long it was after I did it myself before I first had it done at the hairdressers. Maybe 2 months?

I really need to get it done every 2 months, but have been trying to stretch it out to 3, especially as I'm trying to grow my hair out too and it doesn't need cutting that often.

How much does it cost over there? Here it ends up costing me $165: $125 for the cut and colour, $20 tip and $20 for a sitter. Ouch!
