because I'm hungry

I had cereal for breakfast and mackerel salad for lunch (think I should have thrown some beans in) also had a bag of crisps

its not a diet to loose weight .. more of a health kick .. have been living on bread / toast

thoughts / tips much appreciated

TooTicky · 15/05/2007 14:21

How do you feel about crispbreads? Are they still too bready?

Flower3554 · 15/05/2007 14:22

As someone who has just enjoyed a ham and cheese toasty which was so delicious I'm thinking of making another, no tips at all I'm afraid

Try Ryvitas maybe? The ones with sesame seeds on are lovely. I too, love bread far too much. I am supposed to be eating nimble or suchlike as am on a diet, but it's like fresh air and I make our bread which is far too yummy.

Try Paul McKenna's trick of visualising the slice of bread/toast etc covered in something you'd really hate to have in your mouth as it were.

I try and think of hair - I know it's disgusting but it puts me off!!!!

Drink more water, eat some nuts/seeds if you're hungry.

couscous? I have been having a couscous and chickpea and veg salad from asda for my lunch, its filling.

Potatoes and beans?

Oats. Cornbread. Look up foods with a low GI and they keep you fuller for longer by slowly releasing the energy.

Here's a good tip for breakfast. You'll have to trust me on this because before I even start to type I can hear the guffaws.

Soak hemp seeds overnight.
Also soak cashew nuts, oats and dried fruit (eg aprcots).
In the morning whizz the hemp seeds then filter out the husks to leave hemp milk. Add the other soak ingredients into the blender, along with some fresh fruit if you like (bananas are good) and make a hemp milk shake.

I swear this will keep the greediest bastard full up beyond lunchtime. It's incredibly nutritious too.

I've had to cut out yeast for health reasons, therefore no bread which I really missed at first.

Tortilla wraps don't have yeast though so I have those quite a lot. Also Ryvita or something similar with a tin of sardines or mackeral and salad makes a good lunch.

I have a high fibre breakfast cereal - muesli or something similar which seems to fill me up.

I've lost almost a stone in weight as well (in about 4mths) even though I haven't kicked my chocolate habit .

I don't understand those weightwatchers and similar breads - I checked the fat content of 'healthy' wholemeal against 'normal' wholmeal the other day and they were the same - 2.5%...what gives? Are the slices just smaler?

hoxtonchick · 15/05/2007 14:26

dr karg crackers, especially the ones with cheese & pumpkin seeds are yummy. a bit like ryvita, but actually edible.

ComeOVeneer · 15/05/2007 14:26

Choose more low GI foods to keep you fuller for longer eg porridge for breakfast, mixed bean salad, baked sweet potato for lunch, brown rice in the evening (with grilled fish/chicken), that sort of thing.

Astrophe · 15/05/2007 14:28

I read that brown and white rice have the same GI (although brown obviously more nutritious), but that basmatin has a lower GI.

ComeOVeneer · 15/05/2007 14:28

Spidermama where do you get hemp seeds, and what do you soak them in?

Astrophe · 15/05/2007 14:28

basmati, sorry

ComeOVeneer · 15/05/2007 14:30

list of GI ratings for many foods

Astrophe · 15/05/2007 14:33

interesting that long grain white and short grain white are so different! I would not have expected that.

mosschops30 · 15/05/2007 14:34

Twiglett why are you cutting out bread but still eating crisps. Surely a piece of wholemeal toast for brekkie and ditch the crisps would be better

Twiglett · 15/05/2007 14:35

don't understand GI

just had a bowl of Alpen (I know its high sugar but that's ok isn't it?)

OP posts:
nailpolish · 15/05/2007 14:35

alpen is ok if you arent trying to lose weight, just be more healthy

Twiglett · 15/05/2007 14:36

mosschops.. I have seriously been eating too much bread (all whole grain though).. I thought if I cut it out I might get rid of the intermittant back pain I've been getting for a year or so (which I think is connected with my intestines) .. baby steps though

nailpolish · 15/05/2007 14:37

Twig i used to get bloated and it hurt - giving up bread really really helped
hope it works for you

mosschops30 · 15/05/2007 14:37

try pilates and eat what you like works for me, great for the back and tummy

Spidermama · 15/05/2007 14:38
