yes

katelyle · 11/05/2007 21:14

50 metre badge on 5th birthday - another yes,BUT we're all swimming nuts and go at least once a week, usually twice and he's been going since he was 6 weeks old, so it would be a bit odd if he couldn't swim1

MrsWho · 11/05/2007 21:16

dd2 (5) got her 25M badge last year , prob could do 50M but her group doesn't (sore point, no room for people to move up , so there are a few kids stuck in a lower class getting bored)

TheDuchessOfNorksBride · 11/05/2007 21:18

12 no 12 yes (including my DD)

It's a tie!

MascaraOHara · 11/05/2007 21:41

My very un-coordinated dd is 4 and has been swimming unaided for a while now. she's also tall don't know if the height helps.. skipping on the other hand, is a complete nightmare.

fireflyfairy2 · 11/05/2007 21:44

13 no 12 yes.

My dd doesn't get to the pool much so she doesn't really get much chance. She doesn't really "swim" aided either Just paddles about a bit.... there are waiting lists of 6 months and over here for swimming lessons!

She is so un-coordinated though! Only just managing to balance on one leg lately!!

Skribble · 11/05/2007 22:42

DD 7yrs learning to swim now just progressed to rings from bands. But really happy in water.

14 no 12 yes (at 5 anyway)

TwoIfBySea · 11/05/2007 22:45

Make mine 16 no then as I have twins!

16 no/12 yes

But they are going to lessons when the next ones start, had to wait as there was a waiting list!

PeachesMcLean · 11/05/2007 22:51

DS is a lunatic in the water and over confident. However, he's just (one week before 6th birthday) managed to swim a couple of metres unaided (proud mummy emoticon) Can't do it with his head out of the water, so has to stop in order to breathe His best mate has been having lessons for a year and can only just swim unaided.

A healthy nervousness towards water is good if you ask me.

noonar · 12/05/2007 08:04

that makes 13 yes, 16 no.

LIZS · 12/05/2007 08:12

dd is just managing it now (6 in August)and started to have the confidence to go for it by herself and attempt strokes at the end of last term. Yesterday she swam half a width

btw there is huge variation in her Year 1 class - some can do lengths, proper strokes and good times, others are barely happy in the shallow end. This time last year she coudlntl even stand in the shallow end and has had 2 lessons a week since.

14 yes, 16 no

donnie · 12/05/2007 08:13

yes, in a very doggy paddle fashion - once across the pool ( only 10 metres across though)

eachpeachnallyplum · 12/05/2007 08:15

yes....but only within the last 5 months and after 2 years of weekly swimming lessons!

Twinmummyx2 · 12/05/2007 08:50

my just turned 6 year twins can't. But hoping to teach them this summer at the beach.
