With accommodation allowance, living allowance, flights allowance and most likely a pay rise and promotion (he thinks).

He is going to a meeting tomorrow to negotiate his pay etc.

What do you think then? Should I go and lie on the beach for two years or not?

What a great experience to have.I'd be off like a shot

LIZS · 24/04/2007 13:02

ooh sounds worth the visit at least . Check out prices of stuff which needs to be imported from the mainland - food stuffs, clothes, books, dvds, toys, furniture etc . Friends in Cayman reckoned the cost of living was pretty high (if offset by tax advantages of course)

fruittea · 24/04/2007 13:03

Stayed on a friend's sofa out there for 3 weeks a few years back, while he was working there for 2 years. Had the BEST time, it's so lovely, didn't see any trouble, just had a great time - and didn't see any biting bugs on the beach! The sand is beautiful, crushed pink coral.

Need to get a taste for onion soup, and learn to ride a moped!

I believe that the secondary education isn't that great (compared to the UK) so lots of expats come back/board their children at that point.

Lucky you - I'd be gone like a shot!

Anorak, Sis told me about this on Sunday and I have been meaning to call you.
Now you know how much I love you and so I will put myself out for you.
I have found my passport and taken the cat off of my suitcase, sorted out a boarding school for the kids, told DH1 and DP I will see them in the holidays, cancelled the milk and got the suntan lotion, all so I can come with you and keep you company on the beach. NO NO you don't have to thank me its the least I can do.

So when do we go???

Also I am cooking DP a birthday cake and it is taking bloody ages.

kimi · 24/04/2007 13:19

OOHHHHHHH and how p*ssed off would the devon trollop be.

princessCROComel · 24/04/2007 13:25

I think it sounds a great opportunity. It is only for 2 years after all. Not forever. I'd consider it. Great for the children and you.

I saw it on the holiday programme and thought the shirts, tie, shorts combo was funny too.

kimi · 24/04/2007 13:40

I will never forgive you if we, um I mean you miss out on this chance of a life time......

fairyjay · 24/04/2007 13:48

Just beware - friends of ours went to Grand Cayman for six months - seven years later they are still there!

You have to go for it!

anorak · 24/04/2007 13:58

kimi I have told DH we will need a house with a spare bedroom and a pool for our friends and family

OP posts:
kimi · 24/04/2007 14:02

Sod the rest of them, I will live in the cupboard under the stairs no need for a whole room... but a pool would be nice.

Piffle · 24/04/2007 14:03

fab fab fab

heiferCROChater · 24/04/2007 14:04

yes anorak, you will be very popular....
although airplane tickets to Bermuda aren't cheap.

I had a look at the bermuda.com website (just to remenise)and noticed that work permits (visas) only usually last 1yr then have to be renewed and not usually for more than 5 years, so you don't have to worry about being there for ever..

Go for it - at least get a free holidays from the potenial employer to take a look...

LilRedWG · 24/04/2007 14:06

Good for you Anorak - enjoy. We worked abroad for a couple of years and loved the experience!! Definitely insist on having a guest bedroom and pool - we did and it was fab when people came

swanseadaddy · 24/04/2007 16:20

i've got a friend who is a police seargant out there, and stayed for a week 6 months ago. Fantastic place and there is a no frills airline starting in june or july so your family can go there at reasonable prices. if i had the chance i'd definately go

swanseadaddy · 24/04/2007 16:24

sorry meant to add that the violence is not aimed at tourists but against the various villages ie someone from outside the village treading on the toes of the local gang

Beetrootccio · 26/04/2007 13:20

HOw are the kids about it Anorak? are they excited about going? How many will yu take?

edam · 26/04/2007 13:22
Envy
anorak · 26/04/2007 13:31

DS is very excited and is longing to pick bananas from a tree (stomach rules as usual)

DD2 is deliberating whether to leave her dad and come and live with us again the visit will help her with that decision.

DD1 - haven't seen or heard from her for months. Will try and find her before we go.

Beetrootccio · 26/04/2007 13:36

is dd2 the one that I met? How old is she now?

kimi · 26/04/2007 13:54

Anorak, you know we will keep an eye out for/ on dd1.

Can I come and help ds with the banana picking?

anorak · 26/04/2007 14:31

JustineCarrieandTech · 26/04/2007 14:32

I think I will ahve to come over with all four chidlren as well - we are good at sitting by the beach

Sunyshineymummy · 26/04/2007 14:36

Best friend lives there and she loves it, although she has to have a trip somewhere planned all the time or she gets a bit of island cabin fever. It is very very expensive (an onion can cost as much as £2 I believe) and anything you take in from outside is subject to 40% tax. But apparently the beaches are amazing - better than the Carribbean - and she has used the lack of other things to do as a reason to get really into sailing and other sports, so she now looks amazing. You'll love it!

anorak · 26/04/2007 15:01

JC and Tech I assume that's you Beety?

£2 for an onion? Have to live on fish and bananas I suppose! Wonder if I can grow veg. Hmmm

Will be happy to be visited. Funny how popular I've suddenly become in the last few days. Last week no one liked me

OP posts:
anorak · 26/04/2007 15:02

Ah no you have 5 Beety don't you?

Who has 4 kids??? Come on, out yourself!
