A colleague passed this on to me. She knows the family concerned.

If you have a minute, please sign the following petition:

Maternal death petition We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Acknowledge that Child Bed Fever is not a disease of the past, that it still kills mothers unnecessarily and to take positive action now to stop it

Jessica's trust - More information .

Thanks.

what a dreadfully sad story

have signed, hope it helps.

I have signed this. It is telling that childbed fever was eliminated between 1982 and 1984. It is a very sad indictment of post natal maternity care.

It also makes me wonder how many other problems occur with women post-natally that don't lead to death but lead to lifelong infirmity.

NineUnlikelyTales · 19/04/2007 09:46

I have signed. I nearly died of this.

Ponka · 19/04/2007 10:02

I'm so sorry to hear that, Nine Unlikely Tales. It must have been a terrible experience. Have you completely recovered?

I completely agree, Cloudhopper.

Thanks to everyone who has signed so far. I'm sure it'll help.

Bumping again.

NineUnlikelyTales · 19/04/2007 11:36

Ponka I'm really glad you brought this to our attention.

Yes it was horrible. Thank God the MW suggested I might have an infection, or I might have assumed I had 'flu coming and backache from the birth/carrying DS around. When DH called the hospital I felt terrible but by the time I got there I couldn't talk any more or see. The hospital is only 5 minutes away

When I was recovering a doctor told me that a mother had died in the same hospital because she left it too late before seeking help. I think the hospitals should send women home with information about dangerous signs, etc.

NineUnlikelyTales · 19/04/2007 11:36

And yes, thank God I am fine now.

oh my god. I had this too, and I thought I was the only one. My mother of all people diagnosed it as she is a doctor who had worked in Asia.
